Bold & Beautiful

First off, I have some exciting the news to share that Bold & Beauty & Rebel Gal‘s store group is currently free to join. This group used to be paid, so now is a great time to join and grab their group gifts for free. My hairstyle and my golden choker are both free group gifts, and they certainly help you create a bold and beautiful look.

Makeover Time

I’ve been playing around with my Lelutka EvoX head lately, and have been in the process of a makeover. There are a bunch of freebies and cheapies in this post which I collected from all over the grid recently to put my new look together. I’m just going to list them all! Let’s go!

  • My lovely eyes are a group gift from Euphoric, called Hope Eyes. This is an older gift, but I wanted to mention that they recently updated the eyes to work with Lelutka EvoX heads! Just pop over to the store, join the free group and get a new copy of these eyes as well as the Magic Lenses eyes; both products have updated to work with the new Lelutka EvoX heads! The eyes fit Lelutka Evo/EvoX heads, Lelutka Origin, Genus, and Catwa heads.
  • The lovely eyeshadow I am wearing is a free group gift at Tutti Belli. The eyeshadow fits LelutkaEvoX only and it comes in several tones of shimmery colours.
  • Speaking of Tutti Belli, I also grabbed the gorgeous “Selfish Lipstick Collection” with my 800L store credit, which Jacx talked about at length in her blogpost here. The free 800L store credit expires today, and you need the free group to get them. This lip applier gives my avatar a much more realistic look, and it fits LelutkaEvoX only. The lipstick collection costs 499L, leaving room for more free store purchases with the gift credit.
  • My lovely, soft skin is from the 1L sale board at 7 Deadly S[K]ins. I visit this board almost every day and I try to collect any new skins! They appear and reappear often and each offer is only 1L. So if you can’t snag it today keep an eye out; it might come around again! This is the Mercy skin, and it’s on the board for 1L at the time of my posting. It comes in a fatpack of 10 skin tones. The skin fits LelutkaEvoX only.
  • I am also wearing a free neck fix from 7 Deadly S[K]ins which is designed to be worn with their Lelutka EvoX skins. It removes any neck seam completely as long as you match the skin with 7 Deadly S[K]ins tones! They have boxes out of these neck fixes out for free around the store.
  • The faux fur stole is one of the FLF fifty linden deals going on at Blueberry right now. The boa comes in a pack of colours, and it is quite elegant. It fits Reborn, Freya, Hourglass, Lara, Legacy, Perky, Petite, Physique, and Venus. This item is only on sale for a limited time, and you can read more details about it and see a 50L gown from the sale in my recent post here.

See you soon, FabFree!

New Year a New You or It’s MakeOver Monday!

Hey there Fab Free. Did y’all know that back in November of last year 55,000 people were actively playing Second Life at one time? 55,000! Each time I log on, I see anywhere from 40 to 50,000 people on the Grid. That’s a LOT of people. I couldn’t find any hard numbers as to how many of that might be new accounts but at least some are to be certain. And I wondered… how hard is it to get started now days. Back in 2009 it wasn’t really hard to get started but it wasn’t terribly intuitive either. Happily, I had a couple of good friends who also played and they helped me out tremendously. In fact, they brought me to “this great place with a ton of freebies called FabFree”!

Then right on the heels of all this musing of time past, another dear friend started modifying a new Alt avatar for himself and asked for a bit of input since he was designing a female avatar. Plus he, hadn’t really ever gotten into the mesh bodies or head before. As we worked he suggested a cool idea: what if Fab Free had a couple of posts about starting totally new in Second Life from the ground up. Sort of a No0b to Knock out in a few easy steps and for FREE.

So where are you going with all this, Juli? You may ask yourself. I’m glad you asked! I will be writing a series of posts taking us right from the beginning of starting an avatar and how you can start to fill your inventory and take the avatar from free beginning Linden Labs starter kit to a personalized maxed out Second Life Star.

So hang on… here we go!

FabFree meet Kerydwyn. I went ahead and started with a female avatar first simply because I am so much more familiar with female goods on the Grid. But I am also going to gender bend a bit here. So also meet Alistar.  Just… wow. Second Life… why do you hurt me when I love you so much?

You can see there is a huge difference between the starter male and female. At least the female avi isn’t… embarrassing.  It’s clear that way more effort has been put into the female side of things. Even the AO included with the starter girl was better. And yes, I hear you guys out there saying, “As usual.” Frustratingly, that trend has played out the entire time I was running around trying to find freebie starter items for poor Alistar.

So lets start with Kerydwyn. And bodies first. I knew I wanted a mesh body because of the bento rigging. Bento rigging basically adds more joints to the basic skeleton of the avatar so it can move more realistically. If you want to go dancing in SL… you want a bento rig. Some bodies are older and don’t have it so be careful to read the description of what you’re getting and try a demo if possible. But at 0L you can collect a bunch, try them out and pick your favorite.

I went with the Ruth body. It’s extremely basic in as far as mesh bodies go. The feet aren’t changeable so the body comes with three styles of detachable feet. But it’s a good starter mesh body. I also picked up the eBody curvy completely free on the Marketplace. It’s not Omega ready and it doesn’t have Bento rigged hands. But again, for free it’s not bad at all. The eBody full version is Omega ready and has all the bells and whistles… like finger nails… Since the body is not Omega ready, I couldn’t wear my skins that came with the starter avatar. But I found a skin color included that sorta matches. And though I searched… I couldn’t find an Omega System kit for the eBody. Even though it’s listed on the Omega website.

On a personal note, I found the eBody Curvy to still be too bubble butt for my taste. Even though I used the slider controls to make it as small as possible. I also didn’t like the way the vaginal area was sculpted. But that would change with the skin worn or other appliers added. So you’re mileage may vary.

Ruth Body on the left – eBody on the right – both with the “Leah” head from Kalhene.

I had already picked up the free Lelutka heads before Christmas, but I thought that might be kind of cheating. So I grabbed the lovely free head from Kalhene – “Leah”. I was also able to pick up a few free group[p gifts for later. And I will point you over to the list of Mesh bodies and heads right here on FabFree.

I really like this head even though it’s rather basic. It does come with a small HUD for eyelash length, 24 colors for the lips, a glossiness meter, a blink switch and a switch to hide the eyelashes. It also has a switch to “hide” the lips but all it did was take off any color I had put on.

The other “bad” thing… I couldn’t just use the Leah shape for the head. It’s a full body shape. And no amount of sliders could make that booty look smaller. So I ended up wearing the full body shape that came with the eBody. But the original face shape that comes with Leah is so much prettier.  I may mess around with it more and see if I can slider it back.

Okay… so that’s it for today.  Next Monday we’ll take a look at this same process for poor suffering Alistar. And we’ll talk about AOs plus hair!

I hope someone out there reads this and says “Just what I needed!” If you have any questions, comments, corrections or raspberries, feel free to holler at me here on the blog!

Yule Review

Yule Review

Good evening, FabFree. I know I rather don’t look like myself this evening but I had to take advantage of the remarkable new free mesh head available at Bespoke. I don’t often get the pleasure of seeing such high quality accessories coming around for the men of Second Life so I grasped this opportunity with some excitement.

This is the “Yule – Elf” head from Bespoke as I said and you can pick it up for free along with four different colored skins at the mainstore. The head comes with two shapes, one male and one female. Both are very well made as are the skins. Yule also includes:
• BoM Head/Body skin “Wood”
• Rigged eyes, eyelashes, mouth
• 6 eye colors
• AO HUD
• Eyebrow Tattoos (BoM)

I can honestly say I like this head and the shape that comes with it. The shape is not simply a handsome human with pointy ears. The shape and proportions of both head and body are very ‘other’. That said, the head responds fully to the slider system and can be made into your preferred shape easily. I left the shape untouched except for two things. I did make the head to body ratio slightly larger and I made the hands slightly smaller.  Simply personal preference, I would consider this head and shape ready to use ‘right out of the box’.

I did encounter a few minor issues. I felt the eyes did not fit inside the sockets well. They clipped a bit at the corners. However this could easily be changed or tweeked. It didn’t help that I wasn’t 100% happy with the colors of eyes offered but that is purely a personal preference and no bad mark against Bespoke. The other issue I had was the AO. The AO runs through a menu that I felt was a bit clunky. The animations were well done but a bit inconvenient to access. All said, I would not consider any of this a reason to not get this head and enjoy it’s use.

I want to say something about the skins both included and the four extra skins available. These are simply some of the best skins I have encountered in Second Life. They are truly astonishing. The details are both subtle and gorgeous. Even if you decide not to use them with the Yule head they are a stunning addition to your wardrobe.
Yule 2
I am uncertain as to how long the Yule head and the skins will be available but it is described as a “Season’s Gift”. If you would like to get this excellent elfin head and skins don’t delay.

Breathe in the Fall Air

Coming Soon

Hey FabFree! I am currently drowning in work but I wanted to pop in to say hello as I went for a quick breather outside to get some air. Like Aline here, I’m still enjoying the fall air while I still can.

I have some great prizes from the on the FabFree Fallen Leaves & Frost Hunt to show off today, as well as another great gift from the other side of the grid.

  • My cozy sweater and pants are the gift on our hunt at Ari-Pari. As you know, I love Ari-Pari and I love to show their stunning items to you. This top and pants comes in several autumn colours that you can mix and match using a colour changer HUD. This outfit is sized for Physique, Hourglass, Lara, Legacy, Freya, Venus & Isis, and it costs only 1L on the hunt.
  • The gorgeous eyes are the prize at lovelysweet. These are simply gorgeous. They come in 8 eye colours, and there is a little fall leaf in place of the pupil. These eyes include appliers for Catwa, Lelutka and Omega, and they can also be worn with Bakes on Mesh (BOM) eyes. These cost only 5 Linden on the hunt.  lovelysweet will be closing their doors at the end of the month, so make sure that you visit their mainstore and grab all the gifts and everything you need before they close. Their shop will be available on the Marketplace, but they are formally closing their in-world store on November 30th.
  • Finally, my pretty little updo hairstyle is a 1L gift at Magika. The Magika group is currently free to join. This hairstyle comes in a full fatpack of colours.

See you later, FabFree!

xx

Lovely Leah

Heyya Fab Fam!  I am so excited to be in the weekend… I changed shape! LOL No… not really. I’m just reporting on a new FREE Mesh head for us. I know some of y’all are happy Mesh Head collectors and I’m happy to getcha your fix! 😉

This is the Leah Head and shape from Kalhene. You can get it for free when you join the free Kalhene group. I’m wearing just the supplies from the free head gift. The gift comes with two shapes, one slightly more curvy than the other. The shapes are meant for the Erika Mesh Body (Also from Kalhene) but I am wearing it on my Maitreya Lara. So there are some neck issues that I assume would not be issues on the correct body.

In addition to the shapes, Leah comes with four complete body and head BOM skins. I’m wearing the ‘Sunkissed’ skin. The details are very nice and smooth. The body details are nice and well designed. I tried on each skin included and liked all of them. In my opinion, they are all rather light, even the ‘Toffee’ one. Four eye colors for the system eyes are also in the gift. I am showing the ‘Light Blue’.

Leah comes with a small HUD for five eyelashes and twenty our lip colors. It also has a ‘glossiness’ meter and a ‘random’ animations button.  The gift also has BOM makeup for eyeliner, eyeshadow and lip color. I am wearing all three as well as the HUD eyelashes. In all, I think this is a very pretty shaped head. She’s very feminine even in profile. I will certainly being adding ‘Leah’ to my collection.

Shape + Eyes + Skin + Brow Shape + Makeup – Kalhene – Leah Mesh Head and Shape – FREE/0L – Free gift for the group – Kalhene Group is free to join

P.S. A big shout out and “thank you” to  Fab Reader Dutch Galaxy for alerting me to this awesome gift!!
