Hunts in Second Life are a fun, and rewarding activity! There are several different styles of hunts… Some are free, and some charge a small fee per item. One thing is for sure… Once you have been bitten by the hunting bug – you’ll be a SL hunt-a-holic!
What is a SL Hunt?
Grid Wide Hunt:
A group of designers will come together via a hunt organizer who has chosen a theme for their particular hunt. Each of the merchants participating will hide a hunt icon in their shops, sometimes providing a hint of whereabouts.
Sim Wide Hunt:
The sim participating in the hunt will have hidden hunt icons throughout a sim.
Store Wide Hunt:
The store participating in the hunt will have hidden hunt icons throughout their store.

FabFree’s How To Hunt Guide In Five Steps:
1. Select a hunt from one of the resources above that suits your style and become familiar with the hunt icon you will be seeking.
2. If there is an inworld group for your chosen hunt, join it so that you can receive help or give help to other hunters doing the same hunt.
3. Remove all un-neccesary scripts / huds / prims so that you can easily move around shops to locate hidden hunt icons with minimal lag.
4. If your hunt requires a hud, purchase and wear it as instructed.
5. Some hunts will have a blog where you can find a list with slurls and hints and if you are really lucky a prize preview… while some you will follow a LM trail. How these work is, you go to the first stop, pick up the prize, and inside the prize there will be a LM to the next shop – which of course you take to continue your quest.
Hunting Tips:
* By moving away from the TP landing spot when you first arrive, you won’t have 10 other avatars falling on your head.
* Allow the shop to fully rez before you start your hunt.
* Make a hunt folder and drag all of the prizes into that folder as you pick them up – that way they won’t get lost in your inventory.
* Politely seek assistance from the hunt group if needed.
* Make sure you look high and low, inside and outside and upside down because sometimes the hunt icons are in the craziest of places.
* Find a hunt buddy – two sets of eyes are better than one.
* Be patient and have fun!
Hunting Etiquette:
* It is a big no-no to call out the location of a hunt item in local, or in groups or anywhere. If you are hunting with a buddy or a group, use IM to communicate whereabouts privately so as not to ruin the hunting experience to others.
* Say thank you to the shop owners, group helpers and organizers. Of course you wont have time to send out 100 thank yous… but if you find something you really love, they will appreciate hearing so!
* Never, ever complain about a hunt gift. Always remember that while it may not be your taste, it will be someone else’s. Just delete it, and move on.
