Second Life is usually considered a playground for the young and the young at heart, or as the old saying goes, “as old as you feel.” Some days that means rocking the saddle shoes and pom poms, and others, well, your bones ache, and suddenly you look at your avatar that would surely get carded, and wonder who in the world you think you are kidding.
This sexy senior citizen is brought to you by REO-G. It is a prize on their group lucky boards, along with several other “grandmotherly and grandfatherly” looking avatars. Each avatar comes with a skin and shape. (The shape shown above is a personal shape, and not the one that comes with the skin) Needless to say I was thrilled to come across these wonderfully detailed “mature” skins. They have surely put a smile on my face, even if Granny looks as if she is “not amused.”
Looking for something “different” to do, I ventured off into the Sinister Steampunk Hunt 3: Mysteries of the Unknown. Now, I’ll admit that prior to this hunt, Steampunk itself was a mystery of the unknown to me. The idea has always fascinated me, but I have just never had the chance to see what it was all about. So… this was definitely a new experience for me, and I saw things and parts of SL that I had no idea existed. In one store, a small brain in a flying saucer followed me around. I wasn’t sure if I should be flattered or scared! But this really is a fun hunt, especially if you’re looking for some cool Steampunk stuff. 🙂
My outfit – shirt, vest, pants, boots, and hat – are the SSH3 prize from Rag Dollz Steampunk Emporium (there is an identical version for the fellas in the box). The outfit also comes with a pair of glasses, but I took them off to mess with my eyes (see below) and forgot to put them back on. And there is a ray gun strapped to my leg. A RAY GUN, how cool is that?! At least, I think it’s a ray gun. Like I said, my knowledge of Steampunk is pretty limited. Anyway… the chaise behind me is the SSH3 gift from The Vintage Touch, and it comes with several animations for singles and couples. The cabinet is from An Lema, and includes the three curio items on the left: an antique telescope, a picture of a Steampunked kitty, and… wait for it… a LION’S HEART beating in a cage. I mean, who doesn’t need one of those? The lamp is from Nadeau Shoppe; you can make one or both of the gears spin. Finally, the picture of Princess Victoria on the wall is from Sanna Science and Art. You have a choice of several antique frames, or you can use one of your own. And the seagulls are animated. I kept expecting Princess Victoria to start talking to me a la Harry Potter, but alas, she doesn’t move or speak.
I picked up these eyes from the Midnight Mania board at Rag Dollz. They’re part of a pack of six Steampunk Oddity Eyes, and they come in “regular” and unrigged mesh so you can mix and match. I’ll admit that they were rather huge on me, so I had to pick up a resizer script and mess around with them until they looked less huge. This was as small as I could get them, but I think they look pretty good. I mean, who doesn’t need a little earth in their eyes? My little shoulder pet friend is also not a hunt gift. I actually picked him up from a BubbleHut gacha during Fantasy Faire a few months ago, and I’ve been looking for an excuse to wear him. I think we match nicely. 😉 Oh, and I didn’t get a good shot of my nails appliers, but they are only 1L on the Marketplace. You can see a picture here.
The Sinister Steampunk Hunt 3 runs until August 31st, and all prizes are free. But you’ve only got a few more days, so hurry!

If it’s been a crazy week for you, relax this weekend and take part in some maddening fun. I found the Isn’t It Mad? Outfit at Rag Dollz on the Wonderland Hunt. I’m sure you can find other occasions for this suit other than a game of chess. 🙂
I’m continuing with my steampunk fever, this time at Rag Dollz. Emedea Morgenstern has outdone herself with the La Masquerade de Steampunk Outfit. The Steam4 Hunt gift includes the hand-held mask and a tattoo layer eye mask.
While you are at Rag Dollz, also look for the Bourbon Street Debauchery Hunt gift. The Mardi Gras Fun Outfit includes a white half mask tattoo layer and the diamond patterned hat. These are two great gifts you won’t want to pass up.
In celebration there are TONS of gifts scattered around throughout the sims. Here’s some of the gifts I picked up, but be sure to look around because there’s probably more!
I picked up two dresses from Rag Dollz and matching shoes for each from Clocktower Designs on the SL7B Upsidedown sim. The Deadly Rose skin is included with the charcoal Deadly Rose dress. Both dress have two skirt options and the matching top hat.
A Touch of Ireland has a sexy red cut out dress available for visitors at the SL7B Enigma sim. The red Pannie hair is the newest gift for ChiChickie! sub-o members.
From TT’s at the SL7B Sideways sim you can pick up two outfits and even dance a bit while you’re there! The ladies Vamp outfit comes with many options to wear and the sexy mini dress comes in blue, gold, green, purple, red, white, and the Xparent color.
Temporal Signal has a crunk car with party dog included to help in the celebration!
Scoutlounge at the SL7B Miraculous sim has a set of sculpted bar stools and table. These are really nice and would be nice in a 50s inspired dining area.
These are just some of the gifts that can be found at the Second Life Birthday celebration. The welcome area for the celebration is here:
Having the right outfit in your closet for roleplay or an event sure beats doing the frantic search at the last minute. Here are two costumes to keep on hand should the need ever arise. The Ronin outfit from House of Blade is a complete samurai costume. This authentic looking outfit has already been placed in my costumes folder.
Second Life’s Seventh Birthday Party (SLB7) has begun and is loaded with freebies. On the Doll and The Shoemaker parcel, Rag Dollz and Clocktower Designs have put together the Marshal Butler and the Brandon Boots western outfit. This outfit includes a cowboy hat, belt and vest. Giddy on up and giddy on down to grab this outfit.
While you are there, check out the Fashion Bloggers parcelthat fellow blogger Callie Cline and company worked so hard to put together. Maybe I’ll see you there.
