Guest Blog by Geoffrey Edwardstone – A Summer Trip Around the World

Guest Blog by Geoffrey Edwardstone – A Summer Trip Around the World, originally blogged [HERE].

The Around the Grid 2 Hunt is now in full swing with a long list of participating merchants.  It’s loosely based on the Jules Verne classic Around the World in 80 Days, and so is lasting a total of 80 days, through September 30.  This hunt is a little unconventional in that you won’t get the LM to the next store on the hunt when you find a prize; you have to use the LMs on the AGH2 website.  The other twist to the ARG hunt is that in addition to a $1L hunt prize, many of the stores also have a $25L Gatcha with hunt-themed gifts in them (the gatcha is optional for the merchants).  I won’t be showing you stuff from the Gatchas, but here’s some pictures of some of the fun $1L prizes you can get from the regular part of the hunt.

Not all the shops are adhering strictly to the historical aspect of  Around the World … but even those who are giving more modern prizes are sticking with the idea of summer travel.  I start out my summer trip in the Skull Pump Ride red and black roadster, the AGH2 prize from NR Designs.  It’s a drivable vehicle that comes equipped with some smoke and fire when you hit the accelerator.  And, man, can this baby fly!

NRDesigns_002Unfortunately, as you can see I ran this hot rod off the road, which means I’m going to have to walk until I find a place to get a tow.  I’m headed off in my mesh plaid cargo shorts and tee which I got as the AGH2 prize at Beautiful & Dangerous.

Beautiful&Dangerous_001

Finding it a little chilly up here in the northern mountains I whip out the mesh hoodie and t-shirt I scored from the AGH2 at Short Circuit.  It captures the around-the-world theme nicely with the world map on the front of the tee.

Short Circuit_001But what do you know?  Just down the road I come upon a cute little taxi, sitting around just waiting for me to drive it.  This Whimsy Taxi is the AGH2 gift from StoraxTree and is also drivable.  Since I’ll be back inside a car again, I can take off the hoodie and try out the Outer Banks shorts and tank top that I got as the AGH2 gift from Euphoria Couture.  Now if I can just manage to keep this taxi from running off the road …..

Guest Blog by Geoffrey Edwardstone – More from the Medieval Fantasy Hunt

Guest Blog by Geoffrey Edwardstone, originally blogged [HERE].

I didn’t want my first post on the Medieval Fantasy Hunt (MFH XII) to run on for too long, but I do have a few more great gifts from that hunt to show.  Check that earlier post to get the general information about the hunt blog and how the hunt works.  MFH XII not only has clothing, a number of the merchants are offering furniture and outdoor objects for medieval and fantasy role-players.

Lacrime dell’anima’s (MFH XII #35) free gift on this hunt is the Spirits of Nature Table set shown in the next picture.  It features four tree stump chairs animated with various sit poses arranged around a cut tree table (the lantern on the table comes with it), all set in a lovely field of flowers.  If you’re looking to fit out a rural or fantasy setting, this is exactly what you need.   Next to me in back of the table set is the Viking Wagon from the Independent Objects shop (MFH XII #26).  Although it’s not scripted to be pulled by a horse or a person, it does have several nice cuddle poses for just hanging out with your special someone.

3Lacrime&IO(MFH#35&26)_001Along the same lines, United Inshcon (MFH XII #1) is giving away this Water Pond to MFH hunters.  It’s a nice little pond surrounded by rocks and grass tufts, and contains a wood tree branch for sitting and two wooden docks.  You can see me sitting on the dock at the far end, but the dock at the nearer end near the log has a diving animation so that you can land yourself in the water if you try to sit on the dock.  Really great fun, but try as I might I couldn’t manage a photo of me diving.

4United Inschcon(MFH#01)_001~*Sweet Revolutions*~ (MFH XII #02) is giving as it’s free hunt gift the “Yggdrasil – Der Weltenbaum.”  I’m not sure what “Yggdrasil” means, but “Der Weltenbaum” translates to “world tree” and it is a very realistic looking season changeable tree.  I happened to find this tree already rezzed on Sweet Revolutions’ region and snapped the picture below.  But to my surprise I discovered that the green, moss-covered ruins with the pretty lilac-colored flowers that is right in front of the tree is Sweet Revolutions’ prize in the Midsummer Nights Dream 5 grid wide hunt (MND5 #09) which is also running during July.  Here’s a link to the MND5 blog page where you can find out more about this hunt, but at least you get a peek at one of the gifts here.

5SweetRevolutions(MFH#02MNDH)_001And finally, the last item I’m going to show you from the Medieval Fantasy Hunt XII, is a complete avatar called the Elemental Wisp, the free hunt gift from Lilith’s Den (MFH XII #04).  That’s actually me in the picture looking like a free-floating green mop.  The avatar comes with complete body alpha and all those swirly floaty attachments.  The attachments include animations which make you float about in the breeze even if you are not actually flying or walking yourself.  I normally don’t go for these fantasy fairy-like things, but this one is fun and quite unusual.

9 Lilith's Den (#4MFH XII)_001So there you have it – more useful and fun things from the Medieval Fantasy Hunt.

Guest Blog By Geoffrey Edwardstone – Second Life Frees & Offers Deals

Guest Blog By Geoffrey Edwardstone – Second Life Frees & Offers Deals, Originally blogged [HERE]

The Second Life Frees & Offers group (SLF&O) recently sent out a notecard listing all the deals available at participating stores right now, and there are some great free items for men available on the list this time around.   The SLF&O group is free to join and you need to be wearing that group tag to claim your gift at each of the stores.  In addition to the free-to-members gifts, the group gets regular notices from participating merchants about other offers in their shops.  The free gifts put me in an outdoor mood, so I went over to the It All Starts with a Smile sim to take these pictures for you.

This first outfit includes the free SLF&O group mesh racer tank top by [AP.PAREL], perfect for a hot summer day or any day at the beach.  I’m wearing it with my tried and true, available-to-everyone musician male jeans from my inventory library.  My shoes are Duh!’s canvas loafers in tan, just $25L from Duh!.  These nicely detailed loafers are available in several colors, each for the same low bargain price.  The pose in this picture is one of the “Dangerous” pose set, which is the free SLF&O gift at  ~Just Posing~.  There’s also a more female-looking set of poses included in the gift.

[AP.Parel]SL F+O_001

My second outfit shows a versatile mesh “Fred” Top in red, the SLF&O free gift at Glam Dreams.  This shirt is something you can use year-round, so it’s a must-have in your wardrobe.  The pose in this picture is one of a free SLF&O set you can find at [Kikay].

Gizza June GG_003

Now in case you think I don’t look quite like myself in these pictures, you’re right.  Curves Shapes and Skins is offering combinations that include a shape and a skin, one for men and one for women in it’s current SLF&O gift package, and I’m showing you the “Boys” gift.  The hair I’m wearing is Mario in black, which I’ve blogged before but which is still available for free to SLF&O group members at Pocket Mirrors.  And my eyes are Mayfly’s Deep Honey Hazel Eyes, available for free at Fabfree Station.

Gizza June GG_004

So get out there and pick up all these great gifts while they’re available, and don’t forget to look around the shops and give these generous merchants a bit of business too.

Guest Blog by Geoffrey Edwardstone – The Group Gift Approach to Getting an All-Occasion Men’s Wardrobe

A guest blog by Geoffrey Edwardstone, originally blogged [HERE]

Although men’s clothing and special offers are not nearly as common as they are for women in SL, you can get yourself outfitted nicely for almost any occasion if you are a member of the right store groups.  I’ve got three group gifts to show you that will allow you to go from casual everyday all the way to formal, and they won’t cost you a Linden.

First off, let me show you the May group gift from Ydea – it’s still available on Ydea’s giant wall of past gifts and the group is free to join.  This tee and pair of shorts is for fans of the U.S. television show “The Walking Dead,” but you don’t have to have zombie skin in order to wear it.  The outfit includes the mesh t-shirt, mesh shorts, and a very versatile pair of casual boots that could be worn with lots of different outfits.

Geoffrey is wearing:

Shirt, pants, boots: “Walking Fan” outfit by Ydea (May group gift/free to join/free)

Hair:   Makenna in Coffee by A&A Designs

Eyes:  Deep Sky Eyes in Sapphire by Mayfly

Skin: Buck in Bronze by Filthy

* * * * *

For slightly more dressy occasions you can stop by Gizza Creations which recently put out it’s June group gift.  Like Ydea, Gizza keeps its old group gifts available for quite some time after new ones are put out, so you can expect to be able to pick this one up even if you don’t get there today.  This outfit features a blue jacket layer polo shirt with sculpted rolled sleeves and color, and mesh denim jeans with belt included.  My shoes are formal slip-ons, the June group gift at sf design.  There’s a small group joining fee, but certainly worth it for the steady stream of group gifts and the discounts on new items offered at sf design.  I don’t know how far into July these shoes will be available free to group members, so hurry on over to get them soon if you’re interested.

And finally, for those occasions when only formal wear will do, try the Prestigious tuxedo in midnight blue by 69 Park Ave., which is available through July 3 as the group gift.  This formal tuxedo outfit can be worn in several ways.  I’m showing it here with a vest and short flexi bottom to the jacket.  The shirt-layer vest can be removed so that you can wear just the formal shirt under the jacket.  In addition, there is a jacket collar that includes a long white formal scarf, and there is a long flexi jacket bottom that is lined in white satin for very formal occasions.  All of these possibilities give you lots of style options.

And there you have it – a range of wardrobe basics you can get for free from group gifts.  Enjoy!

Guest Blog by Geoffrey Edwardstone – The Dark Fae & Rispetto Designs at The Wash Cart Sale

A Guest Blog by Geoffrey Edwardstone, originally blogged [HERE]
The Wash Cart Sale as some good stuff for men in addition to all the goodies for the ladies, and all at bargain prices.  I was pleased to find that one of my favorite stores, Rispetto Designs, is back in SL after having been closed for about a year, and has a small men’s shop on The Wash sim and  a cart in this month’s cart sale.  Designer Khayman Karlsvalt’s Amour & Rispetto Designs cart is selling one of my favorite summer outfits for just $10L – the Giretto tank top, roll-up shorts and waist-tie sweater.  You get both a black and a white tank top with the outfit, and it’s great for the beach or just hanging out.

Image

Next up is the men’s hoodie and cargo shorts that you can find on The Dark Fae Cart.  The mesh hoodie comes in both a t-shirt version and an open, bare-chested look.  Dark Fae’s black mesh cargo pants complete the look with either version of the hoodie, but the pants can be worn by themselves as a board-shorts swimsuit as well.  The hoodie and the shorts are each a mere $10L at the Dark Fae Cart.

Image

The hair I’m wearing with both outfits is Mario in black, the May group gift from Pocket Mirrors.  Pocket Mirrors specializes in retro and old-time hairstyles for men and women, and it’s another favorite store of mine that has been off the grid for sometime but is now back with a new store.  It’s well worth a visit.

ImageAnd finally, if you’re curious about the little piece of paradise in the background of these photos, you should check out the Arabian Oasis of Love, also available at The Dark Fae Cart at The Wash Cart Sale.  For just $10L you get your own beach or desert oasis complete with palm trees, fountain, and animated cuddle rug with pillows.  There are nine pg cuddle poses in the rug, many of which are suitable for relaxing as a single, and the package contains both a full-sized version and a petites-sized version of the oasis and rug.

Guest Blog By Geoffrey Edwardstone – Group Gifts & Sales Room Finds For Men

A Guest Blog by Geoffrey Edwardstone – Group Gifts and Sales Room Finds for Men, originally blogged [HERE]

There are some terrific men’s clothes out on the grid for a limited time right now so I’d advise you to get right down to both the Cosmopolitan Sales Room and 69 Park Ave GQ to get ‘em while they’re there.  This round of the  Cosmopolitan Sales Room has a couple of super-cool men’s jackets for sale for just $70L until June 8th.  The one I’m showing here is the Binboa jacket in copper with shirt and tie from GioMen on sale for just $70L.  It’s all one mesh piece but comes with a HUD which allows you to change the color of the shirt and the tie separately to any one of 5 colors.  That means you’ve got 25 color combination options with your copper colored jacket.  You can wear this with just about any pants you have in your wardrobe, but don’t forget the free stuff that the Lindens gave you in your inventory Library.  The black Musician Male jeans are one of my library favorites even though they’ve got a little rip in them.

GioMEN-Binboa

The slip-on black leather shoes are the current group gift at sf Designs.  There’s a small group joining fee but it’s worth every penny  because the group gifts change monthly and everything owner Swafette Firefly makes is high quality.

sfDesign Shoes

69 Park Ave GQ always has great group gifts and the group costs just $50L to join.  Group gifts change over on Fridays, and this week there are two free men’s gifts plus a $100L gift certificate available through June 5.  That’s right, you get twice the group joining fee back as a gift certificate which is a fabulous deal – just look for the information board near the back of the store.  This week’s Red Pearl tuxedo is actually several outfits in one because you get both a short and a long tuxedo jacket, or can wear the vest and shirt without a jacket as I’m showing you in the pictures here.  And this is the perfect time to pick up formal wear with a red tie and vest – you’ll need it next winter for the holidays and Valentine’s day.

69 Park Ave GQ Tuxedo

The second group gift this week at 69 Park Ave GQ is a set of four board shorts just in time for the summer beach season.  These shorts are mesh and come with a color change HUD.  Hud controlled mesh is one of the great recent improvements on SL because now you can change your outfit without having to actually swap clothing layers or prim parts while worrying about showing … erm … anything private.

Board Shorts-69

And before I finish, let me mention the dreamy blue eyes I’m wearing in these pictures.  They are the Deep Sky mesh eyes from Mayfly available for free at the FabFree Station.  The package there contains both mesh and regular eyes in four different sizes.

Guest Blog By Geoffrey Edwardstone – Group Gifts for Men at ALB Dream Fashion

Guest Blog By Geoffrey Edwardstone – Group Gifts for Men at ALB Dream Fashion, originally blogged [HERE]

Although ALB Dream Fashion is well-known in fashion circles for it’s colorful boho-esque designs for women, the second floor of the store has a good collection of casual, fashionable menswear. There is a monthly group gift for men up there, and if you look carefully among the racks in the regular men’s clothing section you’ll see a number of additional group gifts where group members can get one or more of the colors of a regular item for free (it’s easier to spot these hidden gifts if you turn on hovertips in your viewer as you move your cursor across the clothing displays). A word to the wise – each group member is entitled to just one copy of each group gift- so if you accidentally trash something you won’t be ale to get yourself a replacement.

Image

I took myself over to the breathtaking Two Moon Gardens to take some photos of two of these ALB hidden group gifts.  My top is the GIL double vest and shirt. This is a single piece set of mesh garments which comes in several color schemes, though only the burgundy color is free to group members. The black leather back of the vest has an interesting pattern on it. My wife said she thought it looked like a horseshoe crab, but it looks to me like the rear end of a hog with a tail hanging down. Maybe it’s just a wearable Rorschach test. The pants I’m wearing are the NOAM black baggy jeans, one of a couple of colors that are free to group members. My shoes are unisex leather sneakers in white available at Duh! for just $10L.  Altogether the perfect thing for a nice spring walk in the garden.

Guest Blog by Geoffrey Edwardstone – Teacher’s Pet

A Guest Blog By Geoffrey Edwardstone, originally blogged on Tailor Made in SL, [HERE]

Listen up, all you guys who need to impress your teacher by the end of the semester so you can graduate.  If you want to show you are a serious student, just get yourself over to the Adjunct store pronto where there is a clearance sale going on up on the second floor.

Image

There are some real finds up there and each one is only $10L. My dress shirt can be bought in any of several colors and includes both tucked and untucked versions of the long-sleeved or rolled-up sleeve styles. Both styles come in open collar or buttoned collar looks. Take it from someone who should know, teachers just love that neat, tidy, tucked-in shirt look. The bow tie is one I had in my inventory from an earlier hunt and is not sold with the shirt. I’ve paired the shirt with Adjunct’s suspender pants, also only $10L. For that low price you get both the long version with tidy prim cuffs and short ones with rolled up prim legs. If you want to use your suspenders to hold up your pants there is a choice of six jacket-layer color schemes including the orange and green style I’m wearing. If you’d rather let the suspenders hang down, just wear the prim version instead, which comes with a resizer and a texture change menu.

That gets me to the all-important personal style choices one needs to make to reinforce the serious student look. First you will need thick glasses with black frames, and this pair is available from Fleebish! on the Marketplace for just $20L. Hair should be short and well-groomed, preferably slicked down in a 1950′s style like this Frank hair which is the Breakfast at Tiffany’s hunt gift from A&A Hair. If you choose to wear a hat, it should be the kind worn by French intellectuals, namely a beret. This one is $10L from Adjunct’s clearance sale, and has a color-change script in it so that you can color coordinate with your suspenders. Now finally, facial hair is optional, but if you wear it, it should be neatly groomed like this Dali mustache, also just $10L at the Adjunct sale. Adjunct has several mustache styles on sale and all of them – get this – have a wiggling animation which you can turn on and off. What a deal!

Voila! There you have it – the perfect nerd – oops! — I mean, serious student look. And don’t forget an apple for the teacher.

Geoffrey is wearing:

Shirt (bow tie not included), suspender pants, beret hat, Dali mustache – Adjunct – Clearance Sale items – each item $10L

Glasses – Thick Glasses. $20L – Fleebish! on the MP

Shoes – Every Day Shoes (Beige) – G&D

Hair – Frank (Dark Honey) – A&A Hair – (free Breakfast at Tiffany’s Hunt Gift)

Eyes – Deep Sky Eyes (Deep Honey) – Mayfly

Guest Blog By Geoffrey Edwardstone – BRAVO FOR BRAVURA HOMME!

A Guest Blog By Geoffrey Edwardstone – BRAVO FOR BRAVURA HOMME!

Here’s a quick post to show you two of the group gifts available at a men’s shop I recently discovered.  Bravura Homme has a variety of mesh casual and business wear available at reasonable prices, making it a great place to find wardrobe essentials.  The other good news about Bravura Homme is that the group is free to join and there are generally group gifts from the current and past two months available in the store at any one time.
Bravura - March GG
This first is Bravura Homme’s March group gift, the mesh Paranoia tee shirt and baggy pants which are perfect for stay at home days where you just need something comfortable to hang around in.  If you’d like to add some color to your wardrobe then you should go for the April group gift, the Ice Rose Dress Shirt in camel paired with sand-colored chinos.  A basic pair of tan chinos is a must-have in any man’s wardrobe, and good mesh ones like these normally sell for quite a bit.

Bravura - April GG

The unisex black leather sneakers I’m wearing in these pictures are just one of the many inexpensively priced shoes you can get from FabFree Designer Duh!.  The men’s department is up on the second floor, and you can get almost any kind of shoe you want from sandals to boots to dress shoes for $25L or less.  A package of these sneakers contains pairs in both black and white, and is a steal at just $10L.

Guest Blog By Geoffrey Edwardstone – ARE YOU ANTISOCIAL OR JUST AN ALIEN IN CYBERSPACE?

Guest Blog By Geoffrey Edwardstone – ARE YOU ANTISOCIAL OR JUST AN ALIEN IN CYBERSPACE? …

One of the great things about SL is that you can always find things that are unusual or just make you laugh, and there are a couple of hunts going on this month where you can find prizes that fall in this category.  One example is the Aliens in Cyberspace Hunt (AiC) which runs during the month of May with 45 stores participating and offering free gifts for both men and women.  You can get hints and SLURLs at the hunt blog.

For starters let me show you my new shiny latex FitMesh Men’s Theless Top, the hunt gift from MadCatCreations
MCC - Fitmesh Men's Theless Top_AiC_Hunt

This top is an example of the new “fitmesh” or “liquid mesh” capability in clothing that some FabFree readers were asking about in a recent FabFree Advice column.  Creating fitmesh clothing requires a different kind of mesh file than the ones the designers are used to using, and I imagine we will be seeing a lot more of it as the designers switch over.  The best part of fitmesh is that it moves with your body.  You don’t get bits of your body poking through when you change poses like sometimes happens with traditional mesh clothing.  Sorry ladies, you won’t see any more of my gorgeous, blue-lipped alien skin as long as I’m wearing fitmesh.

Also available in the AiC Hunt are the mesh Prometheus Porter’s Jacket (pants not included) from {Reverie}.  This is a jacket that can be a staple of your wardrobe even when you’re not in cyberspace.

Reverie_AiC_Hunt

[Goddess Couture]  has not just one, but three AiC hunt prizes.  The male hunt gift there is this open mesh jacket with alien t-shirt. (pants are not included).  This cute little R2D2 robot is the unisex gift, and you can hold onto it or just use as a bit of decor.

Goddess_AiC_Hunt

Where you would you need space robot decor, you ask?  Well you’d need it in your own inter-galactic spacecraft, of course.  And where would you go to get such a spacecraft?  You’d have to find the AiC hunt prize at Steaming Ahead.  For your trouble you’ll get this giant pink bug spacecraft complete with shiny chrome legs and wings.  Roomy inside with the requisite array of dials and knobs, it seats the pilot plus three passengers, and holds a whole bunch of cargo.
Steaming Ahead_AiC_Hunt

For those more earthbound and socially inept, there is the Antisocial Web Hunt (:A.W.H:) which runs from May 1 to June 1. You can find the SLURLs and hints at the hunt website.  If sometimes wish you could just pull a brown paper bag over your head and be anonymous, the AWH has just the gift for you.  Although this hunt gift was shown earlier in another FabFree guest blog entry , I wanted to show you [geek]’s  hunt gift — the Not Here Paper Bag in an appealing shade of brown which coordinates perfectly with your entire wardrobe.   [geek] has thoughtfully provided a headset with the bag so that you can keep yourself amused while you’re trying to look inconspicuous.  I’m also wearing Gye Nyame tatoo, which is the :A.W.H: hunt gift from [Letis Tattoo] .  Personally, I’ve never found wearing body ink to be antisocial, but I’m not objecting to get a cool arm tatoo from the Antisocial Web Hunt.
