DEBUG Settings “Tricks”

Howdy, all you Fab’ers,

I got to thinking about what I can post on for my first post.
I am working on a lot of things right now for hints and tips and I wanted to put something up to show all of you that I am at least thinking about things.

I’ll do something small right now to get a feel for what you all would like to see as far as hints and tips.

I must warn you, I do not use any TPV’s (Third Party Viewers) any longer and the one that I have used was Imprudence.
So, just to let you know, that if you have questions or if some of my tips and hints for the viewer, doesn’t work for you, you will have to ask in your viewer groups.
But for the most part, they should be in ALL viewers, unless the coders changed these themselves without LL knowing.
I also use Windows and do not know the key combo’s for MACs. I apologize in advance.

These below are just a few that I have been asked about, when I changed mine and others wanted them.

So…
Have you ever wanted to change your TP sound (without scripts)?
Have you ever wanted to kill that annoying ‘backspace’ thumping sound?
Have you wanted to change your INcoming and OUTgoing IM sounds?

Well.. I can help in that area 🙂 YAY!

A disclaimer here first.
NEVER mess with something that you have no idea what you are doing.
Editing the settings in DEBUG could render your viewer useless and keep you from logging into SL.
Check and re-check the type (numeric, alphabet, alphanumeric, characters and punctuation) of these settings before changing them to make sure that you have things correct.

If you do not see Advanced on the SL Viewer Menu Bar, press the key combination CTRL+ALT+SHIFT + D, or you can go into preferences under “Advanced” and checkmark “Show Advanced Menu”.

So, let’s dig right into the DEBUG Settings and change these sounds.

  1. First for these sounds, you will need full perm sounds, either ones that you have already, or ones that you can make yourself.
  2. Second, all of these will require copying of the UUID per full perm sound that you wish to use.
  3. Third, you may need to turn your sound volume up as well if it is a low sound.

We’ll take the teleport sound first.

  • Choose a full perm sound in your inventory, right-click it and choose “Copy Asset UUID”
  • Now go to the Viewer Menu
  • Advanced > Debug Settings

In the clear space, type, “uisndteleportout

  • Once that comes up, delete the current UUID in press CTRL+V
  • CTRL+V will PASTE the UUID that you just copied.
  • Press ENTER

Close the Debug Settings window and teleport some place, and if you did it right, you should hear the sound.
Sometimes it takes one or two teleports before you hear it.

Next we will kill the “Backspace” sound.
You know the one when you type something and then delete what you typed before sending it into chat or IM.

  • Choose a full perm sound in your inventory, right-click it and choose “Copy Asset UUID”
  • Now go to the Viewer Menu:
  • Advanced > DEBUG Settings

In the clear space type: “uisndbadKeystroke

  • Delete the UUID in the window below
  • Press ENTER

And the last ones we are going to change are the INCOMING and STARTING an IM

  • Choose a full perm sound in your inventory, right-click it and choose “Copy Asset UUID”
  • Now go to the Viewer Menu:
  • Advanced > DEBUG Settings

In the clear space, type “uisndnewIncomingIMSession

  • Once that comes up, delete the current UUID in press CTRL+V
  • CTRL+V will PASTE the UUID that you just copied.
  • Press ENTER

While still in DEBUG, the next one is the sound to START a new IM

  • Choose a full perm sound in your inventory, right-click it and choose “Copy Asset UUID”
  • Now go to the Viewer Menu:
  • Advanced > DEBUG Settings

In the clear space, type “UISndStartIM

  • Once that comes up, delete the current UUID in press CTRL+V
  • CTRL+V will PASTE the UUID that you just copied.
  • Press ENTER

Close the Debug Settings window and teleport some place, and if you did it right, you should hear the sound.

And now we are done.
If everything went right, you now have new sounds for your Teleporting, Incoming IMs and Starting a New IM with people and groups.
And we also removed the Backspace sound. I always hated that sound.

These settings should update and you should not need to do these every time that you log on.

Again, these are done in SL Viewer 3.7.4 and before.

Good LUCK! 🙂

Dr. Pixel Coming Atchya on FabFree!

Good evening Fabulous readers!  I have news of yet another addition to our blogging team… Although this is a little different than our usual additions!  After reading our Fab Advice questions, Dr. Pixel (Jacob Forsythe), asked if he could be assistance to us for the more technical stuff we can’t answer for you, like our recent questions on alpha layers and machinema.  Dr. Pixel will be here, posting Wednesdays with SL tips, tutorials and issue fixes!  Below is a personal message from Dr.Pixel himself.

Dr. Pixel Coming Atcha On FabFree!
Hello peeps!

Dr. Pixel coming atchya….

First let me say, thank you to Love, for allowing me to help out here on FabFree and I hope that I don’t step on her toes to hard. 🙂
I have been reading FabFree for about 6 years now and always found that they -do- try to get players the best things for the lowest cost.
——————————–
As for why I am here:
I look forward to trying to help players of Second Life in any way that I may be able to help. I have done many things in SL as most have, and have also taught classes to several that dealt with just about anything. I also like learning and being taught something that I do not know, so that works both ways :).

I like challenges and learning things that deal with the game of SL. I know, to some, it is not a game and I respect that, but I see it as a game and enjoy all the talent that comes from within SL,  which makes it even better, we get to see all types of talents and ideas that people come up with and how their imaginations are so exciting and expressive.

I believe that if one knows something that they can share with others, that is a good thing, they can share that with someone else down the line with someone else that they help.

I may not know the right way to do something, but I do know what works for me and that it may help you as well. “Sharing is caring”, in this case, knowledge.

I will do some helpful hint type things to hopefully help people out with what I know or learned over the years.
What works for me, may not work for you.
——————————–
A  little about my av in case you see me wondering about in world:
As any game, one can be what ever they want to be, and with SL, we can be that Dragon from D&D that we always wanted to be, or Tanthalas from Dragonlance that we may have admired so much.

Or we can even be the opposite sex from our real lives. Which leads me to my AV. I do use all sort of avatars for my character in SL just as others may use a Mermaid or a Centaur. So don’t be afraid to say hi if you see me out and about in world bumping into walls or walking off into the ocean somewhere. I’d probably be fiddling around with trying to get unstuck or trying not to land on your head 🙂
Okay! That’s about it for now. I will see you inworld some where.

Again, thanks to Love and all of you FabFree readers for allowing me to be here! Without you, FabFree wouldn’t be here.

Be safe, and, “Be kind 2 one another.” (Ellen Degeneres)
