You can’t take the sky from me

You can't take the sky from me

Hello, hello,

Dear readers and welcome to the final edition of Edi’s Costume Ideas! With Halloween steadily creeping up on us, I was looking for something especially spooky to share with you today and I found it in No Cabide’s latest group gift. Aptly named Demon Girl, the outfit consists of a chic tube dress with a playfully plunging neckline. Little black dresses are a classic wardrobe staple and I’m happy to report this particular one caters to both classic and mesh bodies. For those of us with classic bodies, the Demon Girl dress comes in two sizes (Small and Large) with a spiffy alpha layer to help with the fitting. For those with mesh bodies, there are sizes for Maitreya, eBody, Slink Physique and Slink Hourglass.

Those little extras!

I’ve encountered so many generous creators in my Second Life shopping adventures and Athena Amulet of No Cabide is certainly one of them. Together with the dress, you will receive the wings, horns, tail and necklace pictured, all of which are mesh and exquisitely made. Footwear is not a forgotten detail and these lovely studded boots come in three standard sizes (S-L) with an alpha layer and boots base.

Did you get all that? Well, here comes the best part! The No Cabide group is free to join so you’ll be able to grab this outfit and take flight with no cost at all. How’s that for the icing on the cake?

Speaking of the sweet stuff…

Have you been to the Candy Fair yet? The event is running until the 31st of this month and is filled with sugary goodness. The majority of merchants have free gifts out so be sure to snap those up while you’re having a look see. One such example is the Willa hair from Wasabi Pills that I’m wearing in the picture. This cute two-toned hairstyle comes with an alpha layer and two sizes so that the flowing pigtails don’t cut into your front.

You can't take the sky from me headshot

Hunts!

There are so many hunts going on this season and I’m just going to ahead and highlight two of them. The first is the Mega Halloween Hunt by WoW Skins and Like Designs. The objective is to root out 20 pumpkins (10 at WoW Skins and 10 at Like Designs) containing some great prizes for just 1L! Pictured is the Maram Skin, which is one such prize. In the package, you’ll get the beautifully glossy classic skin with cleavage/no cleavage options, a brow base and also system layer eyes! Oh and don’t forget there’s a 50% off sale happening at WoW skins until the 2nd of November.

The eyes have it

I’m not wearing the eyes included in the Maram package at the moment but only to show you another hunt gift that I picked up from Mesange for the Boo! Bunny Hunt that is running until the 31st of this month. I’ve always believed that working on the little details of your avatar is important and when I saw these eyes I could not get to the store fast enough! The blue-grey of the Storm eyes are absolutely hypnotic and in the gift, you’ll receive system eyes as well as mesh ones with an alpha layer. You’ll also receive Huds for the Genesis Mesh Head and a Hud for mesh heads using the Omega system. All of this for just 1L!

And that concludes my very first Halloween here at FabFree. I hope you’ve enjoyed my costume ideas and I wish you all the best in finding yours! If you’d like for me to do more themed segments, hit up the comments section to let me know!

Step inside and come closer

Step inside and come closer

“Will you walk into my parlour?” said the Spider to the Fly,
‘Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy;
The way into my parlour is up a winding stair,
And I’ve a many curious things to show when you are there.”

Have a seat.

The cushions are comfortable, there’s sushi on the table if you’re so inclined and please, don’t mind the knife…  -ahem- Seeing as it is the haunting season, I couldn’t help but try to be just a little bit creepy. In all seriousness, though, I do have some treats for you today dear readers and if you’re ready to let’s go! First up is the brand new Fabulously Free in SL group gift by M0oH! Now, this store has long been on my bucket list of places to visit thanks to all the wonderful posts by Love, one such example {HERE}, and a free group gift proved to be a strong lure. As soon as I saw the notice I hurried down to the main store to get my grab on and I was not disappointed.

So what are the details?

The gift, dubbed the Thea Outfit, comes in five standard sizes (XXS-L) for both the cropped sweater and the skirt. You’ll also receive not one but three alpha layers to help you with the fitting, one for the top and skirt combined and the other two for each piece of clothing respectively. What I find really great about this outfit, aside from the fact that it’s very well made and that the way it’s textured is to die for, is that you’re given the option to keep the outfit intact or to wear it as separates. Just thinking of experimenting with different combinations gives me joy and more so when you take into consideration the fact that this outfit is completely free. All you have to do is activate your Fabulously Free in SL group tag! Not in the group yet? Well, copy and paste the following link into the local chat inworld;  secondlife:///app/group/020fa7af-444d-f54f-01e2-557ec06315fd/about then click on the link and there you go!

If you want to know more about MO0H! and the great store credit program that they have going on at the store, visit some of Love’s blog posts for more information:

More treats!

Hmm…lets go from the top down, shall we? The bat headband that I’m wearing in the picture is the newest group gift by C’est La Vie. Not only is it adorable and a great fit for the festive season, it comes with a pose and resize scripts as well, making it easy to edit. What’s more, permission is set to copy so you can make backups before you embark on any editing.  The C’est La Vie group is free to join and you can pick up other group gifts while you’re there scooping up this one as well.

Do you love advent calendars? I’m certainly looking forward to Christmas time but Alice Project is giving you a little taste early. As part of their Halloween Massacre Special, you’ll be able to get one free hairstyle in fifteen special colors from the 25th to the 31st of this month. These gleefully macabre blood streaked hairstyles change out daily but don’t worry if you’ve missed one as you’ll be able to buy hair packs consisting of 5 tones for 50L if you want to complete your collection.

And ah yes, footwear. I’ve always had a weakness for quirkiness and boots and this pair from Wicked satisfies both those fancies. The Quinn heels (made for Slink high feet only) feature a wonderfully detailed lace up front and skull patterns so that you’ll stay in step with the season. Go to the Wicked store and hunt out a skeletal hand  for just 1L or just buy the pair for 25L from the shopper’s option that has been set out. The shopper’s option prim is also a skeletal hand that’s placed near the hunt poster. The Jeepers Creepers hunt runs until the 31st of October.

Step in and come closer

Oh, but I’m not done yet!

Head on down to Trick or Treat Lane to peruse the variety of seasonal goodies from a number of merchants. While you’re there, don’t forget to snap up the free gift that the majority of these awesome designers have set out and you’ll find yourself with a bag full of accessories, furniture, and even skin! The one I’m wearing in the pictures above is called Berry, a gift from 7 Deadly s{K}ins that comes in the skin tone Dust. In the package, you’ll receive the system skin with cleavage/no cleavage options as well as Slink hand and feet appliers and Omega body appliers also with cleavage/no cleavage options. Between this and the Klaasje fantasy skin blogged {Here} also from 7 Deadly s{K}ins I might just go drow permanently. The Trick or Treat Lane event though lasts until the 1st of November.

Windows to the soul…

To complete the look are the Hazelnut eyes from Out of Orbit. I tend to go for blue or grey eyes so this was a nice and free change up. These eyes are part of the EnMashed in Fall hunt and aside from the system eyes, you’ll also receive mesh ones with an alpha layer and Huds for Genesis Heads and Heads that use the Omega system. Find the bat that’s hiding in the store and buy for 0L. The EnMashed in Fall hunt is running until the 15th of November.

Ready? Pose!

New types of hunts and games are always something that I look out for and the Hocus Pocus event that is running until the 4th of November was something that caught my attention. You’ll need to go to a participating merchant for the Hud, Elephante Poses is one such merchant, and once you get the teleport list visit the stores to find a magic bottle. Once found say hocus pocus in local chat (game is case sensitive so remember all small letters) and depending on your luck and some magic you may get the item for free. If you’re not so lucky (you’ll get one chance per 24 hours) but still fancy the prize, you can buy it for 50L. That’s what happened to me for this Psycho pose set from Elephante but since I do love the poses from this store and was so tickled by the little prop knife that’s included with the set I got it anyway.

And that wraps it up. So many events going on this season and more besides…what are you still doing here? -Brandishes knife- Off you go.

“Oh no, no,” said the little Fly, “to ask me is in vain,
For who goes up your winding stair
     -can ne’er come down again.”

Tis Kustom

Tis Kustom Hello Fab Free’rs, I hope you’ve all been having a wonderful week! I’m doing pretty well myself, especially after indulging in a little retail therapy at the current round of Kustom 9. This round of Kustom 9 is an anniversary round. Can you believe Kustom 9 has turned 3? In it’s relatively short time in Second Life, Kustom 9 has become one of the events I personally enjoy the most. I like the fact that it has remained a smaller event while still bringing in quality designers, at least in my opinion. In celebration of this anniversary, most if not all the participating vendors have put out a 9 linden gift. I picked up several, and the ones shown here are just a handful that I thought went well together.

This cute shoulder-length hairstyle is the K9 gift from MINA. I am always a sucker for heavy blunt bangs! I also like the swept back look of the style. I think it appears as though it could be tied back, but it floats over the shoulders and ends in a sort of feathery natural looking edge. The hair includes a color change hud of pretty “light brown” variations, and a version with and one without materials enabled.

Next, Essences also placed out a pretty variation on their Sophia skin as their K9 gift. This lovely face with the lilac lips is a Catwa head applier only. The gift applier is in the Essences medium01 tone with dark brows, and costs just 9 lindens like all the gifts at Kustom 9. I think the subtle makeup on this Catwa head applier by Essences is great for everyday wear. I also believe would look just as nice with casual clothing as it would with formal attire.

Fab Free’s own Kathryn commented on the photo for this post in Flickr that these eyes were “striking”. I completely agree with her, she always has such nice things to say! The eyes are part of the K9 gift from S0NG. S0NG’s 9 linden gift includes this hazy blue pair of eyes, and an equally strange and beautiful greenish pair. Named the “Bomi” eyes, each pair comes in a  mesh set, as well as a classic system layer.

Finally, this glittery iridescent choker with the little heart is from Pumpkin and I’m crushing on it big time! lol The mesh collar/choker has such a fun vibe, and it made me think of all the fun plastic jewelry I would have worn in my teens. Needless to say there was an instant feeling of slight nostalgia which is always a good thing in my book. The glittery heart choker has resize scripts built in for easy fitting, and is seriously cute on, especially for just 9 lindens.

Here are the details, I hope you like this small sample of the Anniversary gifts at Kustom 9.

Hair – MINA – Odyle – Light brown – 9L @Kustom9

Catwa Head Applier – Essences Catwa Applier [K9 Gift] – 9L @Kustom9

Not Just Another Fantasy

Not Just Another Fantasy

Halloween is the perfect time to fill out your fantasy wardrobe… and 7 Deadly s{K}ins is making that a little easier this month with two excellent fantasy skins as their group gifts. You first saw the Ladies gift shown off [HERE] by Sheidey. But the men were not left out this month.

If you are a group member (the group fee is 150L) you can pick up the men’s gift at 7 Deadly s{K}ins in the fantasy tone shown above. It includes 3 versions… a clean face and 2 different white bearded versions, each with different brow options. Included in the package are appliers for slink hands and feet as well as the slink body appliers and omega appliers as well. Be sure to hit “accept” when you see all the pop ups, as the omega package does come separately from the slink package. You don’t want to miss getting the extra box.

I also picked up this very nice FREE necklace as part of the Men Only Hunt. I thought it had a fantasy feel and decided to include it in my post. This is the gift from etham and is a fairly elaborate and well made silver and blue design on a black cord. It would be an excellent addition to any gentleman’s wardrobe. Just teleport to etham and hunt down the iconic beer symbol and this classic pendant is yours FREE.

To Fall

To fall

With Halloween right around the corner and with it tons of candy and spooky decorations and parties, I thought it would be fun to scour the grid to bring to you some free or under 75L costume ideas. My usual style tends towards the casual but if there’s anything Second Life has taught me it’s to try new things…so here goes! If you’re not on the RP scene like I am (getting there it’s on my bucket list) but just want to look like someone straight out of a fantasy novel for a day, head on down to Sadix Shop and try your luck on their lucky chairs. The chairs are open to the public with no group join required so when your letter is called you can have this outfit in your inventory entirely for free.

The armor set featured is the Libra outfit and includes everything shown including a fiery back detail and arcane field that is not pictured. The boots, top, and panties of the Libra outfit are mesh and come in the following sizes; boots (S-XL), panties (XS-L) and top (XXS-L). There are alpha layers included for all three items though in the spirit of full disclosure I did have to play with my sliders just a little especially in the chest area. Still, I personally feel that the few tweaks are well worth it as the armor set is well made and detailed. I love the deep red color and feel that it pairs off well with the burnished gold accents. If you have a mesh body that uses the Lola’s Tango applier there is an applier for the top included in the package as well.

The knee and shoulder guards, as well as the skirt, lends another layer of detail to the Libra outfit. These can be edited into position with your shape and I feel that they make great mix and match options if you want to change how the outfit looks. There is also a Lucky Chair for the male version of the Libra outfit as well as a no group required Midnight Mania board that you can slap if you want to try the Libra Guardian avatar.

To fall headshot

The skin I’m wearing in this picture is the October group gift from 7 Deadly s{K}ins. If you enjoyed sweet-faced Klaasje then this fantasy skin tone set will be a great update for RP or themed parties in general. The pack includes classic system skin in the tone dust with cleavage and no cleavage options, Omega head appliers for LAQ, Catwa and [AK] heads, Slink hand and feet appliers as well as Omega body appliers various mesh bodies and a Maitreya body applier. Whew! That’s a skin pack with lots of varied options. The generosity of creators in Second Life never ceases to amaze me. I don’t own a mesh body or head (on that bucket list) but it’s an education just reading these skin packages.

Well! I’m off to find another costume idea. Till next time!

Happy Days

Coming soon to FabFree

When I heard Les Fees Endormies had a set of 5 retro style dresses for only 10L each, I ran over there so fast I left skid marks!  These lovely tidbits come in mesh sizes for Maitreya, Slink, and Belleza.  This picture is shown on the Maitreya body, but I also tried these dresses on a variety of original body shapes with great success.

Coming soon to FabFree

7 Deadly skins offers monthly group gifts on top of a wall full of mini and midnight manias.  I slapped the mystery surprise midnight mania and was gifted with this beautiful, lightly freckled set of OMEGA head appliers in the skin tone of oak.  Natural and rich tones, with a hint of eye makeup makes this a skin I could wear every day.

By the water

By the water

Spending as much time as I do on beach sims, it’s easy to get lost in an endless Summer dream. I’ve only just recently traded in my sundresses and flip flops for some warmer options in the hopes of getting with the weather and have been pretty pleased with some of the finds. The tunic pictured is a dollarbie from Atis and comes in five standard sizes (XXS-L). Included is a Hud that controls the colors on the chevrons and the option to put stripes on the tunic itself. For the picture, I choose a cool blue though there are five other colors to choose from and I simply love the metallic sheen to them.

Also pictured is the Elias leather pants from Caboodle. You can get these amazingly well-made pants for free by hanging around the lucky letter boards at the store. The group is free to join so wear your tag proudly, keep your fingers crossed and hope that luck is on your side. The pants come in five standard sizes (XXS-L) and comes with an alpha layer and a shoe base as well so if you don’t feel like wearing shoes but don’t want to go totally barefoot either this is most certainly another viable (and stylish) option.

Aside from beach sims, I love rummaging through interesting looking stores. Ever shopped inside an elephant? If no, then maybe you’d like to check out Schadenfreude. I adopted my cuddly three headed pal for 50L and there are other cute gachas that you can play at the store. Now…to see if I can arrange some play dates with Love and Kathryn’s pups. If you’re looking to play more gacha, you can get this cute Clio fitted mesh hairstyle from Oleander for 75 L per pull. Gachas are so addictive!
By the water headshot

Finally, the skin I’m wearing is Deluxe Body Factory’s October group gift called Johanna. She comes in a pretty chai tone with both classic skin and Omega body and face appliers included in the pack along with a brow shaper and an alpha layer to hide your system lashes. I love the detailing of the eyebrows and all of the beauty marks on the skin. Deluxe Body Factory has a 299L join fee and there are two other group gifts to pick up this month as well as midnight mania and lucky letter boards open only to members. A great deal all in all.

Galaxies

Galaxies

My Second Life closet seems to have taken a leaf or three out of the pages of my first. It’s laughably messy for one thing, and for another, it’s slowly being conquered by t-shirts. Solid colored ones, ones with slogans or symbols or band logos…I find them difficult to resist and this was most certainly true with the t-shirt pictured. It’s perky purple and pink tie and dye design is simple but eye catching and needless to say I fell in love with it as soon as I stepped into the retirement sale room at Imbue. At 50L I felt that it was a steal but if you’re not as big a t-shirt fan as I am there are other clothing items at the sale for you to peruse. The shirt comes in five standard mesh sizes (XXS – L) and has a very good alpha layer. While you’re there and if it strikes your fancy join the Imbue group for 50L and slap the Midnight Mania board or try your luck on the Letters. Oh and don’t forget to pick up the group gifts, one of which has been blogged by Prudence {HERE}

As the pattern on the shirt reminded me of galaxies I quickly paired it up with another closet staple of mine, the skater skirt. The one above comes from Mag<3 B‘s Marketplace store and will cost you only 5L. It comes in five standard mesh sizes (XS -XL) as well as sizes specific to Slink, Belleza, and Maitreya bodies. The light and airy textures are wonderful and not only that it has a subtle dusting of glitter over it which I thought tied in nicely with the shirt.

Up next are the garter socks from Sn@tch and boots from Baby Monkey. These two stores were some of the very first I’ve stepped into in my first few days of Second Life and I’ve come back time and again because of their quality products and generous designers. The Shannon garter socks pack contains thirteen different colors of system layered socks as well as Omega and Slink applier HUDs. It’s currently in one of Sn@tch‘s riot vendors and I got my copy at 63L. If you’re planning on getting these bring a friend or seven. Sn@tch has six riot vendors and you can try to see just how low you can bring them. When you’re done hop by to Baby Monkey to pick up these boots. Baby Monkey has a 20L join fee and past group gifts like those cute boots above cost 10L each.

Galaxies Headshot

The skin I’m wearing is 7 Deadly s{K}ins‘ latest group gift called Klaasje. I love the subtle makeup on the skin as well as the fact that this month’s gift was really very generous. Two system skins in the tone Caramel, Lelutka and Catwa mesh face applier, shape and eyebrow shape along with a style card. 7 Deadly s{K}ins has a group fee of 150L but the Klaasje skin and all past group gifts will be available to you for free this month so it’s most certainly worth it. To get a look at the male group gift by 7 Deadly s{K}ins it’s been blogged {HERE} by Loki.

To top it off is the Lyra hair from Alice Project that you can get for free by slapping their midnight mania board. There’s no group join required so this beautifully feathered style is just a click away. If colored hair is not to your taste the Lyra hair comes with a hud mishmash of fifteen different colors and I hope you find one that fits you perfectly. I did!

Smiley faces all around

Smiley faces all around

Hello there to all you Fabulously Free readers! I’m Sheidey (but please just call me Edi) and I enjoy mulling over hunt hints, slapping midnight mania boards and long walks on the beach especially if they lead to a Kraken-themed unlucky dip. Truth be told, I hemmed and hawed a little over what to feature on my first post of this wonderful blog. Wings? No. Dress and boots combination? Maybe for later. Broken unicycle? Wait. How did that get into my inventory?

Mysteries aside, I finally settled on the hunt that’s running concurrently with the Fluffy and Fierce event. If the ‘cute with an edge’ look is right up your alley then hop on down to the event and pick up the hunt hint notecards from some of the participating merchants. The hunt item is hidden in their respective main stores so while you’re hunting you can get distracted by all sorts of lucky letters, group gifts, weasels, etc etc…It’s so much fun!

The outfit pictured is the Bring It On batwing set from Blasphemic that comes in five mesh sweater sizes and system layer ripped leggings with an Omega applier as well as appliers specific to popular mesh bodies. It also includes a studded belt that comes with a resizer hud. I love the laid back look and feel of the outfit and paired it up with a pair of boots that I got off the Midnight Mania board at Psychotic Neko. I do believe that it’s the first set of boots in my Second Life closet to have claws. Definitely made for walking.

Smiley faces all around headshot

To tie the whole look together, I’m wearing the Cella hair from Damselfly that you can get for free at the Crossroads event and the new group gift from WoW Skins called Angy. The simple hairstyle and fresh-faced skin just adds to the casual factor of the whole outfit. It was a lot of fun putting this look together and I hope you had fun reading my first post just as much as I enjoyed writing it!

With the Cool Dogs

With the Cool Dogs

The Cart Sale is proving a virtual closet filler for us menfolk. I’ve picked up some great finds as I’ve previously shown you [HERE] and [HERE]. I stopped by today to check out the Ruckus Cart and again was thrilled at the offerings.

In the end, I decided on the black hoodie with striped t-shirt. This includes a hud that allows you to change the color of the striped t-shirt part, giving you six color options total including the blue I’m sporting above. The shirt comes in all the standard mesh sizes and is only 10L.

With the Cool Dogs 2

Did you notice the new skin I am sporting? This is the September gift skin from 7 Deadly S{k}ins and it is a nice one. It’s not often you come across a really great skin for men geared toward those with blonde or light colored hair and I was thrilled when I saw the large array of included appliers in this gift.

The group will cost you 150L to join if you are not already a member, but this one skin gift alone will more than pay for the fee. You’ll get 4 system skins (with beard and no beard options), appliers for: slink hands and feet, omega body applier, omega face applier, tmp face applier, and two shapes which are also included as a bonus. I opted to keep my own shape, but found that the included shapes were rather nice, and they are modifiable.
