Who is this guy?

For those who don’t know me, I’m Carson, FabFree’s newest AND oldest vintage blogger. I was originally hired By Renee Lowenhart in March of 2010 as the male blogger for FabFree, writing alongside Renee,  Whisper Swansong , and Farah Palmer. I also remember helping pick an upstart blogger in 2011 named Love Trill, who by the way likes to call me “vintage”… her word for old.  I spent over two years writing over 1000 posts about free and cheap finds in Second Life before I retired from blogging and SL in 2012. I’ll be sharing my finds with you once or twice a week (as opposed to once or 5 times daily, like before) and tell a few of my goofy stories along the way.

Carson’s first find.

The first find I am going to show is more for new residents who land in Second Life, because let’s be honest, after being away for four years, I’m feeling a bit newbish. When I originally landed in SL back in 2008, I was looking for others to chat with and listen to music.  One of the first places I went to was Frank’s Place Jazz Club. Having not much inventory, no Lindens and walking into a swingin’ joint with a dress code could be pretty daunting. Fortunately, this destination provided residents with a basic suit as to not draw attention to yourself (and risked being bounced) by wearing jeans and a t-shirt. Frank’s Place partnered with SARTORIA to create an updated version of the original Franks Formal Suit. This can be found just inside the main entrance to the club. Walk straight from the landing point and up the steps .

What’s in the box?

This suit for system bodies (yeah… back in the day they were just called bodies) comes with pants and two jackets, buttoned, and unbuttoned for a more casual look. also included are a pair of black dress shoes. (New Resident Tips: Because all the sliders on the shoes are all the way to the right, edit the shoes to make them look more formal and less like you raided Gene Simmons’ closet. Also, many destinations have free items, look at landing points and main building entrances.)

Frank’s Place also has a free black dress for the ladies, but I just don’t have the legs to pull off that gown. 🙂

 

 

What’s next for Carson?

I’m hoping you all join me on my journey to create Carson 2.0. In the coming posts I plan on slowly transforming myself to a version that isn’t made with four years old parts. But then again, some people will always call me “vintage”.

A “Secret” Meant to be Shared

Happy Thursday, Fab Free, and Happy Thanksgiving to all the Fabulouses living in the United States who celebrate this holiday!  Today has me thinking about all that I am grateful for – my family and friends in RL, my pets, my SL friends and fellow bloggers, and YOU, wonderful readers.  Your support, comments, likes, and messages truly brighten my days!  Being able to share my adventures with Ripley, and the Fabulous Finds we put together has been a fantastic experience.  I feel so blessed to be part of this supportive, friendly community…so thank you from the bottom of my heart for being the amazing people you are!

A Surprising Dress Discovery

After viewing Sheidey’s mesmerizing eyes featured in her post [HERE], Rip and I moseyed over to Dulce Secrets to have a look around.  In addition to gorgeous make up, alluring eyes, and sultry skins, the pupster sniffed out this beautiful Ines dress, which is a free group gift.  It features a strappy, figure hugging, sheath-style frock, with a sweetheart neckline, and a playful, asymmetical hem that reaches below the knees.  The gift also contains a short, dark chocolate colored jacket with three-quarter length sleeves, and an interesting texture variation across the shoulders in the back.  The warm tone of the bolero complements the softly faded blue of the dress beautifully.  Best of all, the Dulce Secrets group is completely free to join!

Sugar and Spice and Accessories Nice

As Love stated in her post [HERE] (in which she featured this newest gift from Truth Hawks), with jacket, scarf, and sweater season upon us, we all need a versatile hairstyle that won’t interfere with our outfits.  After reading Love’s post, I looked through the group notices for the Truth VIP group, and picked up the latest gift, Sugar.  This cinnamon hued, sweet bun with wispy tendrils (my spice for the day) was the perfect style for my new outfit.  I slipped on Janice heels from Moda, and the sapphire Sarai jewelry set from Krystal Fine Jewelry, then headed over to the Bella Pace sim for some quiet moments before traveling over to my parent’s house in RL to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner with my family.

Gaps in the wardrobe.

Gaps? But Sheidey what are you talking about? Some Second Life inventories are possibly related to literal black holes! In all seriousness, though I took a good long look at the theoretical mass (and mess!) that is my inventory and realized that I didn’t have very many options when it came to pants. Needing a quick fix and seeing as throwing away my dresses and skirts were out of the question, I decided to hit some sales. In my previous post {HERE} I mentioned a store called Wertina and not only do they sell some great shoes, but they also have a good variety of clothing items in stock as well. Pictured is the Biker pants in black that are simply a study in fitted leather and look great at any angle. The leather studs that go down on either side of the pants are a great feature just like the distressed leather detailing around the knees. The Biker pants come in five standard mesh sizes (XS-L) with an alpha layer included and cost just 15L because of the closing down sale that Wertina is holding. Pop down to the store to browse! With everything marked down to 5L-35L, you might just find something to fill up the gaps in your wardrobe too.  The closing sale at Wertina ends on the 31st of December.

More metallic goodness!

Now that I have a perfect pair of pants, I was determined to find some fitting footwear for it. Luckily enough Enertia is offering up the Kehlani heels as a free group gift and the metallic sheen to the straps and body of these shoes was exactly what I was looking for. Personally, I feel that the edgy style of these heels paired off nicely with the outfit, but if metallics aren’t your cup of tea there’s also a Hud included in the gift package with five other color options. It’s a hair affair!

Hairology has been a hot topic here with the ladies of FabFree and rightly so as the 1st Anniversary of the event is filled with awesome goodies from top quality designers. I found the final touch to my outfit there in the form of a dollarbie hair gift from Vanity Hair. Buns have such a bad rep for being uptight but this beautifully textured updo is simply elegant. Natural colors isn’t something that I’d usually go for when hairstyles are concerned but this gift and it’s Hud that contains four rich tones to choose from certainly inspired me to give the ‘naturals’ a chance. While there is no alpha layer provided, there’s a nifty resizer in the hud which makes fitting hassle free and the hairdo itself has copy permissions enabled so that you can make duplicates for backup. While slapping the Midnight Mania boards at WoW Skins the other day I ran into (literally, thanks lag) this free gift in the games room. This very generous gift contains the classic Soraya skin in the tan tone with both cleavage/no cleavage options as well as appliers for Phat Azz, Slink Hands and Feet, Ghetto Booty and Lolas Tango. You’ll also receive a brow base and shape but my favorite aspect of this skin aside from the fact that it’s totally free are the two freckles tattoo layer that comes included in the package as well. My very first skin in SL was freckled as well so it was good to come back to the look after a while away.

Speaking of going back to old looks, I’ve gone back to blue-grey eyes as well after experimenting with different colored peepers. The aptly named Athena eyes are a free gift from Mesange and not only will you be receiving system eyes but mesh ones as well with Genesis and Omega Huds. I feel wiser already for snapping up this gift and maybe I’ll be sticking to this pair for a while.

First Flurries

A Few Flurries in the Forecast…
