Fabulously Free in SL is Coming to a Close

Hello Fab Free. It is difficult for met to write this blog post, but I won’t delay. Fab Free will be closing at the end of October. This was an incredibly difficult decision, though I feel it is the best decision for Fabulously Free in SL. Being part of Fabulously Free in Second Life has been such an amazing adventure. There are times when it was the one thing I knew I could look forward to. Sadly, my time in Second Life and that of Fab Free is changing. My hope and intention is for the whole of Fab Free to end on a positive note.

I want to say that I cannot express my gratitude enough for the exceptional team of bloggers, and contributors, past and present, enough. Fab Free would not and could not be what it has become without their hard work and dedication. To all those who have contributed to Fab Free via the blog, as our loyal readers and patrons, as our fantastic Designers, as part of the in world group, or at Fab Free Headquarters, I sincerely thank you! You are all such an important part of Fab Free.

From now until the end of the month, it is my sincere hope that the blog, the in-world group, and Fabulously Free in SL Headquarters will operate as usual. I want the last few weeks of Fab Free history to be wonderful. For those who have contributed via donations to the Fab Free tip jar located at Fab Free Headquarters, please know that all recent contributions will be donated directly to the upkeep of The Wash sim. Also, any proceeds from recent gacha donations given to the Fab Free gacha yard sale will also be donated. Any unsold gachas will be returned. So that there is no misunderstanding, at the end of October, Fab Free in it’s entirety will close. This includes the blog, the in-world group, and the in-world headquarters. Though it is sad, hopefully the amazing community that has grown around Fab Free can come together in new and exciting ways.

Again, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart!

Sincerely,

Prudence Rexroth

  1. This is sad news indeed Prudence. FabFree is always one of the first places I visit online each morning – I’ll miss you! Thank you for all the hard work and devotion you’ve put into FabFree; it’s really enhanced so many people’s Second Life! Good luck and best wishes for all your future ventures.

  2. This is very sad to hear, but I hope your road is taking you to new adventures, just as great. I know I speak for many when I say that your hard work and dedication, and that of the many ‘assistants’ (bloggers, designers, those who made donations, etc) has been so greatly appreciated and will be forever remembered. I hope you’ll take time for a well-deserved rest before you jump into your next project. You have more than earned it. Good luck on your next endeavor! BIG hugs to you!

  11. I’m broken to read this. FabFree has become like my home and reference blog since my returno to Second Life this Summer.
Thanks to your articles, your finds, your info on hunts, your HQ ….

Thanks to you I could slowly find my way back to everything that had changed since 2011 when I last visited SL. And Now I’m feeling a little bit emotional and somehow wishing this would be a joke but, no. I even was going to recommend Fab Free on my own blog as a way to somehow express my gratitude, and entered the Photo Contest (what will happen to it?).
Thank you, thanks to the team, for being there, for being my “mentors” for bringing smiles and all that sweet inexpensive fashion tips.

Big hugs to all and the best of my wishes. Thank you, from heart.

  14. This is really sad – like the demise of institution. It has been around so long that I will probably continue to go to the bookmark on my browser for quite a while before I realize fully that it is gone. But, real life has it’s needs and I totally understand.

  15. Thank you Ana, I appreciate and understand your sentiment. Fab Free has been a huge part of my Second Life as well, and that of many. First I was a dedicated reader, then as a blogger, and for a short time Organizer. I would never joke about something like this. The photo contest is still on, it will end at the end of the month. Thank you for being part of Fab Free. Hugs!

  17. I don’t know why it’s closing (will the reason be shared eventually?) and I had to check the calendar, yeah, not April 1. It’s both surprising and sad, but I wish to thank you for everything and for this blog in special way. For years it was a precious resource for me and I used to give the link of this blog to newcomers, and some times outside SL too, to show that SL is plenty of nice freebies, and the offers you can get when you begin. It was also one of the best SL blogs. When it closes, will you freeze it or delete it entirely? So, another good thing that was in SL for years and now vanishes. I saw bunch of that this year. Anyway may you have an happy [whatever you plan to do now] or rest,. and thank you again for these years!

  18. Hi Pixel. Fab Free is closing because it requires such a tremendous amount of work and dedication that I am unable to give it, even with a team of wonderful and supportive people. Such a huge undertaking could not be handed over lightly nor would it be easy to find someone who could truly be dedicated and devoted to running Fab Free on a volunteer basis. It is my intent that Fab Free be remembered fondly and end on a good note, rather than have it slowly decline or become something completely different. I sincerely appreciate your kind words, and sentiment. I know it’s disappointing to see Fab Free come to an end. It’s disappointing to me also. The blog will remain, just no new posts will be published after October. Nothing will be removed or deleted by me in the way of content. Thank you again, I know you’ve been a dedicated reader for a long time. It has been my pleasure being part of the Fab Free community.

That said, I know the blogs take an incredible amount of time to create and the events must be equally taxing. The fact that you have all done it as volunteers makes your efforts all the more admirable. Thank you for everything! You will be missed!!! ❤

  38. Had I not found the Fab Free blog online three years ago and learned of the Fab Free headquarters and all the wonderful creators I would still be floundering with boxes attached to my avatars head and her feet stuck in the ground – That may be a bit of an exaggeration but the sentiment of my words are true.
The entire Fab Free team, this blog, the designers and guest bloggers have been like a handbook for me when it comes to finding my way in the Second Life world. The dedication you all have shown is immense and I will always be grateful for every post, every tip and every kind word and offer of assistance you have given all your readers and members.
We have lost many landmark areas in SL this past year; Bakumatsu, Creators Pavilion, RMK Gothic – Those were all places I spent a great deal of time as I did at the Wash and Fab Free… My SL world seems to be growing smaller each day. You all will be missed more than you know and I can’t thank you enough.

FabFree is and will always be a beautiful part of my second (and let’s admit it, for it’s the real me who is writing this, also first) life.

When I first came in SL, part of what kept me going was to see the wonderful things that this world has to offer: and FabFree was among the best places I could see in existence. In the blog as well as inworld and in the group. Every time since I discovered it back in 2009 when I was a total noobie, FabFree made my day bright and better. Every time since that day it’s in my bookmarks and pins, in a special place. Whatever reasons for your decision, I want to say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. THANK YOU for all these wonderful days and years, for every day is wonderful and bright when I just can’t decide and then I think – let’s take a look at FabFree. When a new resident comes in and I tell them that SL can be anything they want – and redirect them to FabFree. It’s not just the freebies. It’s something that you can feel when reading a post written with love, something special that sets the Fab team apart from others. I’ve always said that best things are done when you put some heart into it, and yes, the Fab Bloggers do put lots of heart into their posts even when you say it’s just a quick post. In these years, FabFree has become a place not only to look for freebies and discounts, but an inspiration, and a point of reference for fashion trends, events, and even places to visit in SL.

I can’t help but feel some sadness. I will miss FabFree. *hugz* Thank you, for every single day, for every single smile 🙂 and for all the love. Thank you for sharing a beautiful part of your lives with us readers. FabFree will indeed remembered fondly, and with love.

Wishing you all the FabFree team the best good luck and success in any new projects. May your days be always bright and full of love.

So many new folks– after getting outfitted at FabFree — said– ‘wow look at ME ‘ and a unique avatar person was born .

FabFree wasn’t a get ‘stuff’ cheap place — it was where SL lives began.

Be happy , be well and know you did some FABulous work for more people then you’ll ever met —

  48. I am sorry to see the end of Fab Free. When I was a noob, freshly hatched I found Fab Free which at that time had a male blogger named Carson who I idolized. My love of Fab Free outlasted Carson’s tenure and one day I met Love Trill on the grid and proceeded to have the most embarrassing fan-boy moment I have ever experienced. It was ugly but I made a friend of someone I respect greatly. Eventually, after becoming a blogger having been inspired by Fab Free I had the pleasure of being a guest blogger on it about eight times! It was the fulfillment of my dream to become part of the history of Fab Free. Finally, I became a staff member and completed the strange journey I have been on. While saddened terribly, I am very proud of the work the bloggers before me, and the ones that toiled along side me have done in writing the story that was Fab Free. In my opinion, I wrote for the best Second Life blog on the internet and it was an amazing time in my life. Cheer up everyone, you will not have heard the last of us. I intend to re-dedicate myself to my own blog which I let go quiet for a while as I worked with Fab Free, and I would assume the same of most of us. Should I not one day see you on the grid, know that you will be missed greatly.
    With love—WHC Riler

  67. Pru, may we ask why? I really don’t mean to pry at all. It’s just such a huge change in the second lives of so many – including me – that I can’t help but wonder what could have prompted this huge news. If the answer to that is personal, please accept my apologies.

I’ve been in SL for…EVER and FabFree has just been there the whole way. Fab Free has been a great friend, it’s been great fun, it’s been a great guide, and it’s been loads of great deals! Thank you all so much.

  68. Hi Sapphoria! Thank you for taking the time to comment. I greatly appreciate your sincere concern and kind words. Fab Free is an enormous undertaking, and for all this time it has run entirely by volunteers, no one involved with Fab Free is paid to manage or run things. Considering it is such a huge task, that takes a lot of time, effort, and energy, Fab Free has just reached a time when it can no longer be effectively managed and organized. It’s a sad time for myself and for the others that are also part of the Fab Free team. The good news is that while the in-world headquarters will be closing in just a few short days, the blog will remain open. The group will also remain open however it will no longer have designer notices. You can view the post about this change here: https://fabfree.wordpress.com/2015/10/20/its-not-over/
