The Future of FabFree

Hello Fabulous Readers, Group Members and Designers,

If you have been keeping up with the blog posts, you may be aware I have just returned from a two week vacation enjoying some sunny R&R.  During that much needed down time, it has come clear to  me that I while I have been busy organizing FabFree, I have been denying myself some of the things that I enjoy in that crazy thing called “real life”, but also within Second Life as well.  This decision is something I have been considering for a few months, however I had been so hectic with a busy RL and a busy SL that I hadn’t really taken the time to sit down and hash it out properly.  I just kept on going to keep up with everything.

It is with bittersweet sentiment that I have decided as of July 31st,  I will be stepping down from my FabFree organizing duties to give myself more freedom.  I do plan to continue logging inworld to “play” and will continue blogging, but on a lighter basis.

Despite the fact that organizing FabFree literally fell into my lap after the departure of our previous organizer, Renee Lowenhart, it has been my  pleasure to have had the opportunity to lead (with MUCH help of the team members) such a “fabulous” organization since December 2012. It is, however…  time for someone else to take the reigns and bring FabFree into it’s 8th year in Second Life.  It is with great relief and excitement that as of August 1st –  Prudence Rexroth, currently FabFree Blogger Manager with nearly two years with FabFree will be stepping up as the new Fabulously Free in SL organizer, and Julianna Seriman who has been blogging with us since November 2014 will be assisting her as Co-Organizer.  I have all the confidence in the world that these two ladies will bring fantastic things to FabFree in it’s next phase.

I cannot express enough how thankful I am to all of the bloggers, group moderators, designers and helpers that have been such a huge support to FabFree and myself over the last two and a half years.  It takes a small army to run FabFree and it wouldn’t have been possible without you.  It has been my pleasure to work beside you, sharing ideas – and for the friendships that have developed  along the way (that I intend to keep, btw!) ;).  Thank you also to those who support FabFree by reading the blog or joining our inworld group.  It may seem like an easy job for you, but it means a whole lot to me that you are part of FabFree!

With this news, the designer application process will be closed until September 1st so that our new management can familiarize themselves with the new routine.

Thank you all for your understanding!  If you have any questions, please contact me inworld.

No Passport Needed

Hello again, FabFree Dear ones! I don’t know about y’all but I need a vacation! Taking eighty or so days to trapse around shopping at fabulous stores and collecting great prizes sounds like just the thing.

No Passport Needed

My first stop on the “Around the Grid in Eighty Days” Hunt was at Nerdy Girl. I am absolutely in love with this dress! I spent a large part of my collage age years in Oklahoma and route 66 runs right through there. I have very fond memories of cruising the ‘mother road’ through the back country and stopping at funky little diners and dives along the way. The ‘Vintage Summer Road trip ‘ dress would have been the perfect get up to cruise around in! It comes in all the standard sizes and the little bow at the waist is optional.

I had to have hair that would ‘flow’ in the breeze as I drive so I stopped at Kokolores’ shop at the Hair Fair and picked up their free gift – Ash . It comes in a very nice variety of colors and is unisex. I’m thinking it would look tres smexy on some of you guys out there who rock the longer hair.

As my real life BH  ( That’s Beloved Husband ) will tell you: I never travel light. Poor guy is pulling out his hair trying to pack everything for our move as it is.  Annnyway, Park Place Home Decore has set out the sleek three piece luggage group for us as part of the Around the Grid in Eighty Days Hunt. It comes loaded with 22 poses for guys and gals. It’s just the thing to pack up your souvenirs from the trip!

The Hair Fair only lasts until July 26! That’s just a few more days, so if you need hair ( and who doesn’t??) go support the Wigs for Kids charity and grab some marvelous free gifts.

The Around the Grid in Eighty Days Hunt runs all the way till September 30th!

Totally Wigging Out At The Hair Fair!

The Hair Fair. Guys, unless you live in a cave (if you do, I am coming over to watch ESPN and drink beer) you know it’s a big deal on Second Life. All month there has been a traffic jam as avies crowded, pixel against pixel, to see what the best hair creators on Second Life had to show off, and what freebies they set out to lure us in. Well, now things have gotten a bit less crowded and the level of lag is much more comfortable, so it’s a great time for us guys to go have a look. Most of the free items available at Hair Fair are for female avies, but there are some male and unisex hairs offered plus a hat or two for you to discover. Finding quality male hair as a freebie is quite a challenge, so I wouldn’t miss an opportunity like this if I were you.

My favorite men’s item I found at The Hair Fair this year is offered as a FREE gift from Exile @ Hair Fair. Part of the Jack And Jill Hair Fair Gift, Jack is a stylish modern cut with the top of the head covered by a mesh piece, and the sides and back covered by a hairbase. A unique aspect of this hairbase is that it is offered in 3 hues, and you may manually tint all three of them to get just the match you are looking for. On my avy, I resized the top mesh portion a bit smaller until I got the look I wanted. This is a fatpack and has tons of colors offered in a hud based system. Exile @ Hair Fair gives you everything you need to get it looking perfect for your avi. That’s extraordinary for a FREE men’s hair.

I, much like many guys on Second Life, wear black often. By often, I mean all the time and in every shade imaginable! That’s why I grinned ear to ear when I saw this denim shirt and jacket set from Tori’s Stylez at Retail Therapy! Yes, that is a bit of fuchsia, Fabbies, but no worries. It won’t bite. The Ewan SE- Fuchsia Black Jacket & T-Shirt is a brilliant bit of color while catering to our very masculine addiction to black. Tori’s Stylez at Retail Therapy offers this one-piece garment in five sizes for easy fitting. It is a 10L hunt prize on The Summer Hunt 2015. You are looking for a very small brightly colored star. This is a darned fine looking hunt prize, I hope you enjoy it.

Another fantastic FREE gift at The Hair Fair is this long hair offering from Asset @ Hair Fair! The Miracle Hair comes in a fatpack of colors and uses a hud system to change them. Also worth noting: it comes with a set of six head alphas to help make your head invisible under the hair. It is an interesting way to handle that, and I think I will probably be able to use the alphas on other outfits as well. So, it’s a great bonus feature! The hair itself is mesh and has a true rock and roll look! So much so, that once I had it on, I had to run out and buy a guitar! The fit on my head shape took a bit of fiddling to perfect, and I like to wear a hairbase as well, so I added one under it for a finishing touch. If you like long hair this is a must pick up!

I could have worn black leather, but I knew you would be expecting it now that I am a rock star. I decided to switch it up with a very nice FREE Group gift jacket from SZD Fashion. The Leather Jacket in Light Brown caught my eye not simply for the brown tones in it, but rather for the distinct olive tones. The overall texture appears dark but look closer. You will see the nicely balanced tones are very pleasing and give you a wide range of color options when matching it with your other clothes. Another surprising feature of this jacket is that you get it in two sizes of Fitmesh! I don’t have much Fitmesh yet, but this jacket fit me perfectly when I slipped it on. Kudos to SZD Fashion for making a great fit easy!

It has been quite a fun day, from the hustle and bustle of a very successful Hair Fair event, to getting so excited over a FREE hair that I bought a guitar and nearly went on tour! Oh! Time to start saving for a tour bus! Have fun everyone and since I rarely tell you this, then I should say it again: Thank you for letting me do what I love at a level I always aspired to. Take care and see you on the grid.—–WHC Riler
