You are probably hearing a lot about Copybot and content theft, but what the hell are those things? If you understand what we are talking about, it will be easier to take a conscious attitude.
Copybot is a program that copies, that clones other’s creations. Besides being respect lack with the creator, because they waste time creating, researching, spend lindens to upload things (if they stop creating or even if they never started, we would all be noobies forever, oh no!!!), it is a crime. Yes, we are talking about a crime.  Everyone that create in SL, have rights over their creations, just like it happens in rl. Even being a virtual world, Second Life is made of real people and there are laws to play! When we all join in SL, we need to make an agreement called TOS. Some of the foreign people say: it is too long and I don’t know English. But do you really think it is an excuse?

Let’s talk about principles, life principles.  We are talking about stealing someone’s creation. Would you steal someone in rl? Did you know that when you use a fake copy or a “replica” of something you are stealing?

Just for you to think, once I heard a comment like that: “I use stolen things because that’s the only way I can have that “Redgrave” skin”. Then I told that person, and I leave that comment for you to think: “So, you are saying that you “need” to use stolen skins because you don’t have financial conditions to have that original one… so, in your rl, if you don’t have financial conditions to buy a car, you are going to steal one or buy one stolen because it is cheaper?”

There are many points of view about how to avoid copybot, and don’t tell me that it is Linden Lab problem! It is not only their problem! It is mine and yours! So, let’s stop saying, thinking or supporting the idea that Linden Lab should do something to stop it, because they are improving tools to work against copybot and while it doesn’t happen or work properly, let’s make our part! You don’t need stolen items, I don’t need stolen items! Even because we have Fabulously Free in SL to give us the most fabulous finds!

Samsara Group is offering a male (sweater) and female (dress) freebie to support these campaigns (these gifts will be there until saturday). Criandoasas Twine and ChicoSC Carver are the creators and they started with a small store in SL only with female clothes. Today, they have male clothes, accessories, shoes and a great store with great things with fair prices and it was possible only because they were able to deal with stolen items and didn’t loose incentive to create. Also they can be a very positive example of Brazilian designers. Brazilian people have such a evil fame. But it can’t widespread. We have amazing Brazilian creators in sl and they must be recognized, even more that the Brazilian thieves.
If you have doubts about stolen items, we can try to help, we can share information and I am sure that we all together can make the difference.

Today is the start of the Step up! Against Content Theft campaign in Second Life and also the Artists Voice campaign. For those who do not know what these campaigns are all about, they are an attempt to bring the subject of Content Theft strongly to the attention of Linden Labs via different ways. Step Up! are advocating no uploads for the whole of 5th November, where as Artists Voice is suggesting that there are no uploads, sales, purchases or blogging over a 48 hour period.

We at Fab Free have chosen to keep blogging to help support those amazing people who create and bring our world to life. We only support Original Content Creation and we always make sure to verify any creator we showcase on our blog.

But why should we all be bothered about content theft? Think about this.. the creators in SL put in unimaginable amounts of hard work, time, creativity and dedication into making our virtual world as beautiful, interesting and diverse as it is. Also, and even more importantly, alot of the creators depend on SL for their real life income or to top up their real life wages, so content theft is effectively having a very real impact on their real life situations. It is not just about Second Life… It is peoples real lives that are affected too.

Personally, I really don’t think anyone is at liberty to disrespect those artists that make a living from SL. Besides those that simply create for the pleasure of it, Second Life has given alot of people who cannot work, a chance to express themselves and use their talents in a way they cannot otherwise due to illness, disability or other reasons. We should be supporting them by buying their creations and exposing those who steal from these talented artists. There are those that may say SL is only a game.. but to some people IT IS a way of life and a way to make a living.

Nicky Ree is one of the most talented creators I know of in SL and she has released a freebie dress especially in support of this cause. If you go to the Nicky Ree outlet store in Deco, you will find the Summer Breeze Dress in a beautiful Lavender colour.. and really, when you can find such gorgeous creations from these generous creators, is there really any need to steal?

But what can we do to stamp out theft? Educate yourself. Teleport to stores and get to know your favourite designers work, even if you cannot buy anything right at that moment. Find out the names of the designers. Check their profiles for their stores as all content creators are proud of their creations and will most likely have landmarks to them in their picks. If you think you might have found stolen content, contact the creator who you think is being stolen from. Send them a notecard with a landmark and maybe a photograph of the item and they will investigate. Never confront the suspected thief yourself. Protect yourself by not wearing stolen items.

After all, there is plenty of free, dollarbie and low priced fabulousness out there that you don’t need to support content theft! Show our creators how much we appreciate them!

 I found three skins for guys. two of them in different hunts and the other one in a lucky board and it comes with a shape too. They are good options to change your look a little bit.

What is content theft?

Content theft is when a product of the original creator is being sold or distributed, without the original creator’s consent, by someone else.

Who is the creator?

There are certain ways to find out who the creator is. I’ll describe certain situation and explain how to find out who the creator is.

A. checking an item in your inventory

1. Open inventory from bottom menu

2. Right click on the item in your inventory you want to check

3. Click ‘Properties’. A new window will open called ‘Inventory Item Properties’.

4. Check the name of the creator. U can also check their profile to see if they have the shopname listed.

B. checking an item rezzed in world

1. Right click the item you want to check.

2. Click “More” >> “More” >> “Inspect”

3. A new window will appear called “Inspect Objects” (shown below)

4. Check under “Creator Name”, if only the original creator is listed. Be sure to scroll down all the way to check the whole list.

C. checking items from a vendor spot

1. Rightclick the vendor sign

2. Click ‘Edit’. You might have to repeat this step twice.

We advise you to check all profiles, cause usualy these persons have their shop/store/skills listed in their profile.  Also please read the comments that are made on this posts, cause there is much to learn from.

FabFree does not support content theft. Start checking creators. We do it all the time, and we know we are being ‘inspected’ all the time. Let’s support an honest healhty fashion world in SL.

November 5th begins the Artist’s Voice: Stop! campaign.

FabFree will not be participating in the Artist’s Voice: Stop! campaign and I encourage everybody to think.

This campaign is an insult to legitimate content creators.  By supporting this campaign, designers will lose sales; money that goes directly to creators, not the lindens.  The idea is to shut down shop for two days, two days of no sales.  Many designers rely on every sale they get!  The people who do want to actually purchase things will find someone willing to sell and if it isn’t a legitimate creator, then who will it be?  Blogs are a form of advertisement for creators who work hard in this competitive world.  Fellow bloggers, if you feel the need to go two days without blogging anything from the wonderful creators around the grid, I urge you to use the time and space to inform and educate others about content theft.

We will be posting as normal.  We will also be posting our personal thoughts, ways to identify, and what to do after spotting content theft.  FabFree has never and will never support shady or illegal activities.  With our in world Fabulously Free in SL group, designers must be verified.  We personally check each and every creation before assigning a designer tag.  Original creators are notified when their creations are found elsewhere.  This takes hours, but it is a commitment to the designers and our Fabulous community.

We only support legitimate, true creators!

I hate fake more than anything.  My wish for everybody, is that you do it TRUE, even if you mess up, even if you fail.   Go into our world and do everything TRUE.

Being a child of the 80’s I couldnt help but dash out to do the Trapped in the 80’s Hunt. Another short hunt, this one has 30 stores on it and your starting point is at Intrigue Co. It is running until the 15th November and you are searching for Vinyl Records.

I absolutely adore this skin. I love the make up.. the little flecks of sugar frosting above the eyes is sooo yummy it makes me want to lick the skin. It comes with so many different options too. Lighter and Darker brows are included in the pack. You can see the lighter brows in the first face picture, so it works beautifully with blonde hair. The cleavage detail is gorgeously sculpted. Not too much, just alluringly feminine and the whole skin has such a soft velvety appearence to it. You also get a pack of eyes with the skin.

Yesterday Ms. Mairead Fitzgerald sent me this green Nordic Skilk cowl neck sweater.  This comfy sweater has a sexy plunging neckline.  The sweater is part of a new release and will be free at Prim & Pixel Paradise until Wednesday, November 4th.  Farah showed the amazing SoHo boots from Maitreya.  These black PatentMix SoHo boots were sent to the Maitreya sub-o group yesterday.
