Fabulously Free in SL

{March 15, 2008}   Answer to Odd Accusations

Today I received an odd comment on my blog about voting for the JIRA SVC-676. The comment basically accused me of stealing because of the picture in the top right of the blog. The picture that is located on the top right of my blog is part of the “girl in green” theme by Stacey Leung and is part of the WordPress free theme selections which automatically gives credit to the designer on the bottom right of the blog. So surely, they did not mean this picture. This only left the small button I made to support the cause located on the top left. Luckily, I quick search on my computer found the original .psd file for something so small and insignificant. To be on the safe side, I am also posting proof that the other picture is part of the WordPress theme pack.

Here are the pictures that prove the top right picture is from WordPress: (click them to see full size)

{March 6, 2008}   The Gnubie Store Moved

This is an important announcement for those who use The Gnubie Store as a great freebie/dollarbie resource. The Gnubie Store has officially moved to Powder Mill(121,142,34). Please update all of your links and landmarks.

Many old favorites for the original location remain(some with new items) however some are no longer there because they are not really active in Second Life anymore so could not move their items. There are also some new additions at the new locations like: Fleur, Nyte n’ Day, Très Blah, Gritty Kitty, and Yummy Jewelry.

{February 19, 2008}   Jem & the Holograms & Misfits Skins

I received an IM from Katerina Kirax informing me that she found someone selling the Jem and the Hologram skins in world. I quick run to a costume shop found versions of the Jem and Misfit skins being sold in a kit. How do I know they are not a take on the same idea? The exact method, colors, shapes, etc used for the Jem glam makeup. They have been placed on newbie_template with no original creator listed. Do not find yourselves ripped off, please? I offer these skins for free at Talisman(230,192,24). When I made these skins, it was for fun and to always be free.

I have also sent the skins out as a group gift to FabFree as a reminder that they are free. Do a search in groups for the group called Fabulously Free in SL. (When I do a group search I use the phrase fabfree and it is the only choice). Join this group. It is free to join. Go to the Notices. Sort the Notices by date. Go to the one dated 2/19/2008 with the subject Jem & Misifit Skins Stolen. Click Open Attachment. Click Open Attachment. You are now the proud owner of a box that contains both the Jem & the Hologram Collection and the Misfit Collection of skins from Fabulously Free in SL. Find a place that allow build. Unpack your box. This item will still always be free at the HQ as well.

Updated note: Only Hasbro may lay claim to the makeup for the characters portrayed on their cartoon Jem and the Holograms. This means no one active in Second Life owns them so all issues must be dropped. I have learned through this experience that anyone selling products that use things similar to this like items from companies such as DC Comics, Marvel, Disney, Dreamworks, NBC, CBS, ABC, BBC, etc(you get the idea), may be reported and may have to have their items removed from SL.  I did a quick look at SLX using “superman” as an example.  There are many sellers out there with products that violate that trademark.  I wonder how many others are out there.  I have further learned that muting people will make you automatically decline their inventory offers. I never knew this before.

{February 17, 2008}   Upcoming Vacation

As some of your may or may not be aware, I will be going on vacation to New Orleans starting late on February 26th and will be returning midday March 4th. If you have any review items during this time or tips please pass them onto Hazel Homewood. I am working on several blogs that will publish in my absence(thank you, WordPress) that will involve some flashbacks, readers’ favorites, and general places.

I am asking for your help with the Readers’ Choice. It is fairly simple. I will take a poll of you, the readers, and post the top 5 for each category.  Please do not vote for yourself but give credit to your peers.

{February 2, 2008}   Serious Business: Stolen Goods

SVC-676If you have been paying attention to the feeds today, you know that something is rotten in the state of Second Life and the designers have had it. It is time for us to give back to the designers the only way we can, with out vote. We all love freebies but freebies given out that are stolen from hard working designers is immoral, unethical and just plain wrong. Situations documented here, here, and here are causing designers to stop designing, shops to close, and leaving a bad feeling over the design community.

I urge all of the FabFree readers to go and vote on SVC-676.

Here are the steps:

1. Go to: Issue SVC-676 or https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-676.
2. In the upper right hand corner it says log in, click this.
3. Type in your full SL name, first_name last_name. (I would put in cherlindrea lamont.) Enter your password. (This is a SL run site so your password is safe.) Click Login.
4. You should now be back at the original page listed above: Issue SVC-676 or https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-676
5. On the left side bar, find the option that says Voting. Under that tab it says Vote for It.
6. You have now helped many people by helping move this issue closer to the attention of the Lindens.
7. Share these steps with your friends.

Note: If you cannot connect right now, keep trying or come back later and try but please do not ignore this.
Please, if every reader goes and follows these steps it would be a tremendous thank you to all the designers who work hard to bring you all fabulous freebies. Do NOT buy anything, not even freebies, from thieves.

The original store is taken down but there are other locations so please keep voting.  The also threatened to come back as alts.  We need to make sure this is never allowed.
