September 6th kicks off Fabulously Free in SL‘s grid wide hunt, Finding FabFree. The hunt is in celebration of 5 fabulous years in Second Life for the FabFree blog and Fabulously Free in SL group. The hunt continues throughout the month of September.
First I want to tell you a little background history on FabFree. The FabFree blog was established September 6, 2007 by Cherlindrea Lamont. At the time, Cher noticed that there were many wonderful fashion blogs for SL, but none of them focused on free and inexpensive items. The Fabulously Free in SL in world group was founded later the same month on September 30, 2007. (Hence, the reason the hunt begins September 6th and Ends September 30th)
In June 2008, I began my journey with FabFree. I was a noobie myself and just finding my way in SL when I spotted Cherlindrea in a store telling someone she was thinking about adding additional writers to the FabFree blog. I quickly IMed her and was welcomed aboard. Months later in September 2008, Cher asked me if I would take over the blog and group. At the time the group seemed huge to me with around a thousand members and 64 designers. I was hesitant to take over FabFree, but honored that she trusted me in carrying out her moral and ethical vision with integrity.
Over the past five years, the FabFree blog has had 19 writers, including Cherlindrea Lamont, Hazel Homewood, Shangreloo Kuhn, Scotti Rhode, Renee Lowenhart, Syler Morgwain, Farah Palmer, Taris Gausman, Whisper Swansong, Spudgy Dean, Carson Caiben, Stolan VonDerFeld, Khalania Pearl, Ophelia Aldrin, Love Trill, Magenta Andel, AlisaDexter, Kyle Beckett, and Trinket Melody. It has personally been an honor to work with these people throughout the years and I am privileged to know each and every one of you. There are currently 3 female writers (Renee Lowenhart, Love Trill, Trinket Melody) and 1 male (Kyle Beckett) on our blogging staff.
The Fabulously Free in SL group has grown to over 20 thousand members. We have amazing designers in both their creativity and generosity. The FabFree chat members tend to go out of their way to help each other and it’s never a dull moment with that bunch. The moderators have been with the group a very long time. From being the very first designer I added in the group to providing FabFree a home on their sim (FabFree Headquarters), they are trusted friends who have always put the best interest of the group first.
All year I have been trying to come up with some way to celebrate FabFree’s 5th anniversary. I wanted a way to thank everyone who has been a part of the past 5 years. The hunt has well-established designers who bring their A game to every creation. These are designers that have been showcased throughout FabFree’s history. I can’t even begin to tell you how thrilled I am that they decided to participate in the Finding FabFree hunt. I’m pleased to introduce you to some of my favorite stores throughout SL!
Last but not Least, I must mention the Finding FabFree hunt organizer. Jiovi Michigan came to me when she heard I was looking for a hunt organizer. She had no idea what she was in for! From day one she took charge and made my ideas for the hunt a reality. She truly has been amazing and we love her! If you happen to see her out and about, let her know how much she is appreciated!
The hunt is called Finding FabFree. Everyone has a story about how they found FabFree. You may have been brought by a friend, you may have met your best friend in the group, you may have been a new designer starting out… I’ve told you my “Finding FabFree” story. How did you Find FabFree?
