In the religious sense, St. Patrick’s Day is a time to reflect on the life and works of Saint Patrick, a Christian priest that is said to have driven snakes out of Ireland and brought Christianity to the then-Pagans.
In a non-religious way, it’s a day to celebrate being Irish or the achievements/traditions that the Irish have brought to various parts of the world. In America, it usually deals with beer and corn beef, although charities also hold events (like a marathon in my area) to support causes. Looking back on my history and understanding, the Irish-Americans are a tough people that kept working hard and stuck to what they belived despite differences and hardships.
