I never knew how wonderful the pics @ Fab Free were until I checked your Flickr. It really is too bad that the quality doesn’t come through on the blog :S
I do hope fab free updates the green layout (it’s been 2 years with the same layout) and uses something that shows off the quality better
Thanks for all your hard work everyone, we do really appreciate it
On the Information and FAQ page this is explained:
“How come your pictures/shapes aren’t made fancy like other blogs?
We choose not to photoshop our pictures because this is not what the product looks like when you buy it in world. We are showing you a true representation of the product and not something that has been shopped to look better.”
In other words, we don’t want you do get something and then be like, “OMG this isn’t what it is supposed to look like.” We are showing you the items exactly as they are given.
~Renee~
i do think it is time to update the blog
just something so the background of our photos isn’t transparent
but i’m just one man and one voice
@ lei: I agree, the blog layout should be updated to a more modern-2009-look. It’s really been 2 years and this blog is this always the same lay-out, while there are better once which will probably make our picture look more beautiful.
@ Renee: I don’t think lei wasn’t talking about the pictures-layout, but about the blog-layout.. I totally agree on not photoshopping our pictures so u really see what the items look like.
@ Syler: I agree on a new fresh look for FabFree, with keeping the signature-look of Fabfree but in a modern jacket! Make our blog-posts look even better!

I agree. The problem is the selection on wordpress is very limited. Changing the layout requires a lot of scripting, but we are looking into it.
I’ve noticed the difference in picture quality also when I post here as opposed to Flickr, Koinup, or even my own wordpress blog. There is a transparency placed over the pictures with the template used by Fabfree.
If you take a screenshot and adjust the contrast and colour in gimp (or photoshop), you can see that the asterisk pattern on the background also covers the pictures we post. it’s very faint.. but it’s there.
Hopefully you’ll be able to open this link.. here’s an example.

It’s a watermark, and is useful in some applications as it can prevent people from using your pictures without permission. I watermark all of my RL artwork before putting it online, but I’m not sure a watermark is particularly useful to us at Fabfree.
Farah was correct:
I was not commenting about photoshopping photos. My point was: I had no idea how amazing the pics from this blog were until I saw the real quality on Flickr. Flickr photos are sharp and high resolution and when transferred on this blog it seems more pixelated and loses colour saturation.
On another note, I think there is nothing wrong with taking pics into Photoshop and adding a border or doing something fun with the layout of the photos as long as the items in the photo aren’t modified.
