Freebie Etiquette

You would think that I wouldn’t need to post this but a recent event on a group IM has prompted me to go over the etiquette of freebies. A girl on the Bewitched Update Group got rather nasty with the owners of Bewitched because she did not read the dates on her notices. There was a secret sale, which happen often at Bewitched, yesterday. These sales are announced suddenly to the group and only last a few hours so basically if you don’t get there in time you will miss it. The great part about these sales is some hair packs are only $1L. See, I have blogged before that belonging to this group was a good idea. This girl, who did not log in until today, got the notice and ran over without checking the date. She then got abusive on the chat towards the owners because the sale was over.

Designers are giving stuff for free or $1L out of their own generosity. No one has the right to bitch at them and act like a stupid cow over something you got for free/$1L. People who whine and bitched about the freebies ruin it for the rest of us. The more whining the less freebies there will be.

1. Do not whine to the designers about their freebies.

2. Do not whine to the designers that the freebie is not your favorite color.

3. If you don’t like the freebie, say thank you and move on with your life.

4. Stop trying to ruin all the freebies and specials for the rest of us.

5. Be grateful you got anything at all.

Feel free to add anything to this list.

To the owners of Bewitched: Your long time group members know that you are always giving free things away or having amazing sales with $1L hair specials. Do not let this cow ruin the kindness you show to the rest of us. We appreciate you.

  1. Here here. I’ve belonged to Bewitched almost since my first day in SL. I love their hair and I think they are truly some very generous people 🙂

  2. It’s so sad that incidents like that happen. Just like in real life, people don’t have a right to free stuff in Second Life. Many content creators are working in Second Life to make money for their real lives. The fact that any of them give out freebies is an act of kindness and a bonus for us, the SL shopping community.

  3. You know, at least once a month, and usually more often, I get angry IMs because (get this) the free skins I donated to the Free Dove have underwear built in… and are therefore (get this) a “rip off”. *blinks*

It’s stuff like that that makes me wonder why I bother in the first place, and I’m sure other designers who deal with this sort of thing feel the same.

  4. That is why I am saying, please, just say thank you and move on. It ruins it for everyone else when someone whines all the time to the designers about what they got for free.

  5. I think you covered everything in your list. its just sad that you need to say it. I love bewitched, i have more hair than i know what to do with (no, thats not true, i’m constantly changing hair, so i know what to do with it LOL) and i can’t get over how generous they are.

    some people are just ungrateful.
